The City of Vaughan continues to collect garbage, green bin organics, large and bulky items, and leaf and yard waste. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, blue box recycling is no longer managed by the City and is instead overseen through Ontario’s new producer-run program, with Miller Waste Systems handling collection service for Vaughan residents.

How to Find Your Vaughan Trash Pickup Day

Vaughan gives residents two easy official ways to check their 2026 schedule: the address-based garbage collection schedule lookup and the city’s 2026 waste calendar. The calendar also shows your collection zone and whether you follow the blue or yellow map area.

1. Open the schedule lookup. Go to Vaughan’s official collection schedule tool.
2. Enter your street number and street name. The site will show your collection calendar for that address.
3. Confirm your map zone. Vaughan’s 2026 calendar uses blue and yellow zones and a specific collection day for each address.
4. Check your weekly and biweekly streams. Garbage is every other week, while recycling and organics are weekly.
5. Use the calendar or reminders. Vaughan also promotes Recycle Coach and the city waste calendar for reminders and weekly planning.

Vaughan Trash Pickup Schedule: What Runs When

Vaughan’s 2026 calendar highlights unlimited weekly recycling and organics, plus every-other-week garbage collection. Leaf and yard waste stays seasonal, and collection changes slightly during some holiday weeks.

Vaughan also says all bags and bins must weigh less than 20.5 kilograms or 45 pounds. Garbage bins must be under 121 litres, and green bins must be no more than 46.5 litres in size.

Vaughan Blue Box, Green Bin and Garbage Rules

Vaughan uses separate curbside streams instead of one mixed system. That makes it easier to avoid rejected items and missed collections.

After Jan. 1, 2026, Vaughan residents do not receive new recycling carts. Recycling continues to be collected from the blue boxes residents already use, and new blue boxes are purchased through Miller Waste Systems instead of the City.

Vaughan Set-Out Rules

Vaughan collection times can vary, so the city repeatedly reminds residents to place waste out on time. Crews do not return for materials set out late.

• Place waste at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before collection.
• Place waste out no later than 7 a.m. on collection day.
• Keep at least 3 feet of clearance between waste materials, mailboxes, vehicles, trees and other obstacles.
• Keep items off the road. The city says collectible materials should be placed at the curb or beside the driveway, not on the roadway.
• Separate materials properly. Blue box recycling, green bin organics, garbage and yard waste should not be mixed.

Large, Bulky, Appliance and Metal Pickup

Large and bulky items are part of Vaughan’s garbage rules, but they still count toward your garbage item limit. Appliances and large metal items work differently and must be booked separately.

For regular bulky garbage:

• Each bulky item counts toward the three-item garbage limit.
• A paid garbage tag is required for any item above the three-item limit.
• The city will collect up to 13 garbage items per location on any collection day.

For appliances and metal items:

• Collection is by appointment only on Thursdays.
• Appointments booked before noon on Wednesday are collected the same week.
• A service fee of $39 per appliance applies, taxes included.
• Items must be placed out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 7 a.m. on the appointment day.

1. Use regular garbage rules first. If the item is bulky but not an appliance or large metal piece, it usually counts toward the garbage limit.
2. Buy tags when needed. Garbage tags are required when you exceed the three-item limit.

Vaughan’s 2026 waste calendar marks no-collection days and notes that service moves to the next day on those weeks. As of now, the city has also separately published holiday notices for early 2026 route changes.
