Quick Resident Answer
How do I find my Cape Coral trash pickup schedule?

Cape Coral trash pickup schedule garbage collection is address-based. The City contracts with Waste Pro for solid waste service, and residential garbage, recycling, yard waste and regular bulk waste are generally collected on the same weekday. Use the official “Check Your Trash Day” map and enter your address to see the exact pickup day.

From May 1 through September 30, residential collection begins at 5:00 AM because of summer heat. From October 1 through April 30, collection begins at 6:00 AM. Put carts and yard waste out before the correct seasonal start time, or the truck may already pass your street.

Cape Coral’s pickup map is more important than a neighborhood guess. After the 2025 route updates, some households received changed days, while most did not. That means your friend across town may be wrong for your address. The official map lets you click your address point and see trash, recycling, horticulture and bulk pickup days.

1

Open the official trash day search

Go to the City “Check Your Trash Day” page and enter your address in the map search bar. Click the address dot if the day does not show immediately.

2

Save the seasonal start time

For May through September, use 5 AM. For October through April, use 6 AM. Do not use 6 AM during the summer window.

3

Remember different trucks come through

Garbage, recycling and yard waste are collected by different trucks. If one cart is collected and another is still there, wait until after 6 PM before reporting a miss.

4

Use the same day for bulk waste

Regular bulk pickup days are always the same as the normal trash pickup day, but appliance or white-good pickup may require direct Waste Pro scheduling.

Resident shortcut: Save two reminders: one at 5 PM the night before and one at the seasonal morning deadline. This prevents late set-out and missed truck complaints.

Cart Rules

Cape Coral Garbage Cart Rules — Bag Trash, Keep Lids Closed and Face Handles Toward the House

Cape Coral homes are provided City-owned carts for household waste and recycling. These carts must remain with the residence. Household garbage should be bagged and tied before it goes into the trash cart. Overfilled carts, blocked carts, hot ashes, hazardous waste and medical sharps can create collection problems.

Do This for Garbage
  • Place household trash in tied bags before putting it in the tan/brown garbage cart.
  • Keep the lid closed to reduce odor, windblown litter and animals.
  • Place carts at the edge of the road with wheels and handles facing the house.
  • Keep about 3 feet between carts.
  • Keep at least 5 feet from mailboxes, fire hydrants, storm drains, parked cars and fixed objects.
  • Place carts out after 5 PM the day before pickup.
Do Not Put These in the Garbage Cart
  • Hot coals or ashes.
  • Dirt, rocks or construction debris.
  • Large bulk items that do not fit properly.
  • Sharps, syringes, prescription medication or medical waste.
  • Paint, chemicals, automotive oil or hazardous waste.
  • Recyclables that belong in the green recycling cart.

Blocked cart warning: If a vehicle, mailbox, tree, storm drain, fire hydrant or other object prevents safe truck access, the driver may not collect that cart. Cape Coral streets with narrow parking or swales need extra attention on pickup morning.

Official Video Help

Cape Coral Waste Pro Video Guide — Garbage Disposal Do’s and Don’ts

This official video was produced for Waste Pro and the City of Cape Coral. It is useful for new residents, seasonal residents and homeowners who are unsure how to prepare trash before pickup, especially because Cape Coral has seasonal pickup start times and different trucks for garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk material.

Best for: New residents, renters, homeowners with repeated missed pickups, seasonal residents returning to Cape Coral, and anyone unsure about cart placement, extra garbage bags, or what should not go in the garbage cart.

This video supports the practical guidance in this article. For exact pickup dates, holiday changes, missed collection, cart replacement, bulk drop-off rules, appliance pickup and household hazardous waste disposal, residents should still verify details through official City of Cape Coral and Waste Pro links below.

Recycling

Cape Coral Recycling Pickup — Green Cart, Extra Recycling Box and Battery Warning

Recycling is collected on the same weekly service day as garbage. The green recycling cart is for accepted recyclables only. If the recycling cart is full, Cape Coral guidance says extra recycling may be placed in a clearly labeled cardboard box.

Recycling Day Checklist
  • Use the green recycling cart.
  • Place the cart out before the seasonal start time.
  • Keep carts spaced and accessible.
  • Use a clearly labeled cardboard box for extra recycling when needed.
  • Keep recyclables out of plastic garbage bags when local instructions require loose recycling.
  • Check Waste Pro / City guidance before guessing on difficult items.
Do Not Put in Recycling
  • Batteries, especially lithium-ion or rechargeable batteries.
  • Food waste or yard waste.
  • Paint, automotive fluids or household chemicals.
  • Medical waste or sharps.
  • Electronics that require special disposal.
  • Bulk items or white goods.

Battery fire risk: Waste Pro’s Cape Coral page warns that no batteries should go in the recycling cart. Rechargeable, lithium-ion and car batteries should be handled through proper disposal routes such as Lee County’s Topaz Court facility or other approved battery disposal options.

Yard Waste

Cape Coral Yard Waste Pickup — Branches, Palm Fronds, Brown Bags and 50-Pound Limits

Yard waste, also called horticulture waste, is collected on the same day as garbage and recycling. It includes residential trimmings, grass clippings, leaves, weeds, fallen fruit and palm fronds. Preparation matters because yard waste is not collected the same way as normal household garbage.

Prepare Yard Waste Correctly
  • Branches and limbs should be cut to no more than 6 feet long.
  • Branches should be tied in bundles weighing no more than 50 pounds.
  • Branches should be no more than 4 inches in diameter.
  • Grass clippings, weeds and small debris may go in brown paper bags.
  • Personal yard waste containers should be no more than 40 gallons and have handles and a lid.
  • Each can or bag should weigh no more than 50 pounds.
Palm Fronds and Contractor Debris
  • Palm fronds do not need to be cut, bundled or tied.
  • Place palm fronds in one neat pile by themselves.
  • Place bundled yard waste in a separate neat pile.
  • Tree surgeons, fence companies, landscapers and contractors must remove their own work debris.
  • Land clearing debris may have a separate collection/disposal charge.

Storm season note: Hurricane debris rules can be different from normal weekly yard waste. After a storm, follow City emergency debris instructions instead of assuming Waste Pro’s normal weekly yard waste limits apply.

Bulk Pickup

Cape Coral Bulk Trash Pickup — Same Day as Trash, 5-Foot Clearance and Appliance Scheduling

Bulk waste too big, bulky or heavy to fit inside the trash cart can be placed out for collection on your scheduled collection day. The City says bulk pickup days are always the same as the normal trash pickup day. Keep bulk items away from fixed objects so the collection equipment can reach them safely.

Bulk Pickup Rules
  • Place bulk items out on your scheduled collection day.
  • Keep bulk at least 5 feet from fire hydrants, mailboxes, cars, storm drains, utility poles and damageable property.
  • Do not block the roadway or storm drains.
  • Do not mix household chemicals with bulk waste.
  • Do not put regular garbage or recyclables at the bulk drop-off site.
Appliances and White Goods
  • Ask the retailer about removal when replacing an appliance.
  • If removal is not included, contact Waste Pro for white goods pickup.
  • Examples include stoves, washers, refrigerators and large appliances.
  • Call Waste Pro at 239-337-0800 to coordinate pickup.
  • Do not hide appliances in yard waste or regular trash piles.

Missed Pickup

Missed Trash Pickup in Cape Coral — What to Check Before Reporting Waste Pro

Because different trucks collect different streams, a partial pickup is not always a missed pickup. Garbage may be collected before yard waste, or recycling may be collected later. The City asks residents to wait until after 6:00 PM on the normal or post-holiday collection day before reporting a missed solid waste pickup.

1

Confirm your day and seasonal deadline

Check the official map. For May-September, items need to be out by 5 AM. For October-April, items need to be out by 6 AM.

2

Check placement and separation

Carts should be accessible, properly spaced, with wheels and handles facing the house. Bulk and yard waste should not block storm drains, cars or fixed objects.

3

Wait until after 6 PM

One truck may have collected garbage while recycling, yard waste or bulk is still pending. Report only after the service window passes.

4

Use Waste Pro or Cape Coral 311

Call Waste Pro at 239-337-0800, use the City’s 311 app or call center, or contact Cape Coral 311 for address-specific help.

Do not report too early. If only one stream was collected, the other truck may still be working your area. Reporting too early creates noise and does not solve the actual route issue.

Number 1 mistake: Plastic bags in the blue cart. They jam sorting machines and send entire truckloads to landfill. Take them to Kroger, Publix, or Target drop-off bins instead.
