Quick Resident Answer
How do I find my Boise trash pickup schedule?

Boise trash pickup schedule garbage collection is based on your address in the Republic Services schedule tool. Trash is collected weekly on your designated trash day. Recycling is collected every other week on that designated day. Compost is collected weekly year-round.

Set trash, recycling and compost carts out by 6:00 AM, keep carts at least three feet apart, and remove carts from the street within 24 hours. For missed trash, recycling, glass or compost pickup, contact Republic Services at 208-345-1266 or csidaho@republicservices.com.

For Boise residents, the most accurate schedule is the Republic Services address lookup. The City of Boise Curb It pages explain the program rules, but your exact collection day and recycling week come from the Republic schedule tool.

1

Enter your Boise service address

Use the Republic Services schedule page, not a screenshot from another neighborhood. Boise has address-based collection days.

2

Save the trash day first

Trash pickup is weekly. This is the anchor day for recycling and compost planning.

3

Confirm the recycling week

Recycling is every other week. If you put the blue cart out on the wrong week, trash and compost may be collected but recycling may stay behind.

4

Check holiday weeks

Boise collection is delayed one day for the week following certain weekday holidays. Weekend holidays do not change the schedule.

Resident shortcut: Check your address in the Republic schedule tool, then add separate phone reminders for weekly trash, weekly compost and every-other-week recycling.

Boise Cart Set-Out Rules — What to Do Before 6 AM

Many missed pickups are not true missed pickups. They happen because the cart was blocked, placed too late, too close to another cart, or filled with the wrong material. Boise’s strictest resident rule is simple: place the right cart out by 6:00 AM with three feet of clearance.

Do This
  • Set carts out by 6:00 AM on collection day.
  • Place carts against the curb or along the alley.
  • Keep the handle pointing toward your residence.
  • Keep carts at least three feet from each other and from mailboxes, parked cars, fire hydrants, utility poles and low branches.
  • Remove carts from the street within 24 hours.
  • Use the correct cart: gray for trash, blue for recycling, green lid for compost.
Avoid This
  • Do not block sidewalks with carts.
  • Do not put hot ashes into trash carts.
  • Do not put hazardous waste in trash or recycling carts.
  • Do not bag mixed recyclables in plastic bags.
  • Do not put glass in the blue recycling cart.
  • Do not place extra trash bags directly at the curb.

Boise resident tip: If you have a narrow street, alley pickup, parked cars, snow piles or low branches near your cart area, set the carts where the truck arm can reach them. Three feet of clearance matters more than making the carts look neat.

Holiday Delays

Boise 2026 Holiday Trash Pickup Schedule — One-Day Delay Weeks

Boise residential collection is delayed one day for the week following the listed holidays when those holidays fall on a weekday. If the actual holiday falls on a weekend, the City says no schedule change occurs. This matters most for recycling weeks because a one-day delay can make residents think the blue cart was missed when it was simply shifted.

Holiday2026 DateDayBoise Resident Action
New Year’s DayJanuary 1, 2026ThursdayCollection delayed one day for affected Thursday/Friday routes.
Memorial DayMay 25, 2026MondayMonday through Saturday service week shifts one day later.
Independence DayJuly 4, 2026SaturdayNo delay if the actual holiday falls on a weekend.
Labor DaySeptember 7, 2026MondayCollection week shifts one day later.
ThanksgivingNovember 26, 2026ThursdayThursday and Friday routes should expect one-day delay.

Do not copy Meridian, Ada County or Garden City schedules. Boise uses its own Curb It program with Republic Services. Nearby cities may have similar haulers but different calendars, billing and special-service rules.

Trash Cart

Boise Garbage Collection Rules — Weekly Trash, Cart Sizes, Overflow Stickers and Motor Oil

Boise trash is collected weekly on your designated trash day. Residential cart sizes are available in 48, 65 and 95 gallons. If you regularly run out of room, request a larger cart instead of piling extra bags beside the cart.

Trash Cart Basics
  • Trash is collected weekly.
  • Use the designated trash cart.
  • Keep lid closed whenever possible.
  • Set out by 6:00 AM.
  • Keep three feet of clearance.
  • Remove from street within 24 hours.
Overflow Stickers
  • Each household receives five free overflow stickers each year.
  • Stickers do not expire.
  • Use a separate 20–35 gallon trash can.
  • Place the sticker on the can.
  • Do not place extra trash bags directly at the curb.
  • Additional sheets of five stickers cost $10.68.

Used motor oil: Boise allows up to two 1-gallon translucent containers with screw-tight lids, labeled “motor oil,” next to the trash cart each week. Household hazardous waste sites can take larger accepted amounts, so use HHW if you have more than the curbside allowance.

Recycling

Boise Recycling Pickup — Every Other Week Blue Cart Rules, Calendar and Common Mistakes

Boise recycling is collected every other week on your designated trash day. The blue cart accepts common paper, cardboard, cans and specific plastics, but it does not accept glass, plastic bags, foam, batteries, electronics or hazardous waste.

Accepted in Boise Blue Cart
  • Corrugated cardboard that fits inside the cart.
  • Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office paper and paperboard.
  • Aluminum and steel cans.
  • Plastic bottles, jugs and jars labeled #1 and #2.
  • Plastic food tubs labeled #5.
  • Clean cardboard without grease stains.
Do Not Put in Blue Cart
  • Plastic bags, films, shrink wrap or bubble wrap.
  • Glass bottles or jars.
  • Foam cups, plates or packing peanuts.
  • Hazardous waste or electronics.
  • Plastic clamshell containers.
  • Empty aerosol cans.
  • Freezer or refrigerated food boxes.

Overflow recycling: If your blue cart is full, extra recycling can go in a cardboard box no larger than 2 feet by 2 feet or in a sturdy 20–32 gallon container labeled “RECYCLING.” Flatten cardboard first. If this happens often, ask about a second recycling cart.

Compost

Boise Compost Pickup — Weekly Green Cart, Food Scraps, Paper Leaf Bags and Free Finished Compost

Boise curbside compost is collected weekly all year. Residents use the green-lidded compost cart for yard trimmings and accepted food scraps. If your green cart is full, Boise allows up to 10 paper leaf bags of yard waste per week next to the cart.

Accepted Compost Items
  • Grass, leaves, garden trimmings, pinecones and pine needles.
  • Branches and limbs cut to fit in the cart.
  • Fruit and vegetable scraps.
  • Eggshells, bread, grains, rice, pasta and coffee grounds.
  • Meat, fish, dairy, bones, skin and fat trimmings.
  • Paper bags, coffee filters, tea bags, toothpicks, corks and food-soaked paper towels.
Not for Composting
  • Liquids.
  • Pet waste.
  • Plastic bags.
  • Compostable or biodegradable plastics.
  • Compostable plates, cups, silverware or trays.
  • Large raw meat volumes from hunting or freezer failure.
  • Rocks, sod, soil, charcoal or ashes.

Finished compost benefit: Boise households participating in the compost program may pick up finished compost at the Joplin Road Compost Pick Up Site. The City lists the site at 12142 Joplin Rd, Boise, ID 83714, with self-serve pickup rules and a limit of two cubic yards per household per year.

Glass, Orange Bag & HHW

Boise Glass Recycling, Hefty ReNew Orange Bag and Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off

Boise has several programs that are easy to confuse. Glass does not go in the blue cart. Hazardous waste does not go in trash or recycling. Hefty ReNew orange bags are only for specific hard-to-recycle plastics and must follow the program instructions.

Glass

Use free glass drop-off collection sites or sign up for monthly curbside glass collection. Boise lists curbside glass service as a 65-gallon cart with a monthly fee. Do not place glass in the blue recycling cart.

Orange Bag

The Hefty ReNew orange bag program is for certain hard-to-recycle plastics. Do not use it as a regular recycling bag. Follow the official Boise/ReNew guide for where to buy bags and what goes in them.

Household Hazardous Waste

Boise HHW mobile collection sites are free and usually open one day per month from 12 PM to 7 PM. Do not leave items when the collection vehicle is not present.

Need a location? Use Boise’s official collection sites map for glass, HHW, medication disposal and recycling center locations.

Large Items

Boise Large Item Pickup — Furniture, Mattresses, Appliances and Free Annual Limit

Boise residents can request limited free large item collection. The City lists up to six large items per customer per year upon request. You must call Republic Services to schedule pickup before placing bulky items out.

Common Large Items
  • Couches, chairs, dressers and bed frames.
  • Mattresses and box springs.
  • Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.
  • Dishwashers and hot water heaters.
  • Bicycles, swing sets, carpet, grills and lawnmowers.
  • Water softeners, furnaces and swamp coolers.
Before You Put It Out
  • Call Republic Services at 208-345-1266.
  • Schedule the large item pickup first.
  • Empty appliances before collection.
  • Place items at the curb or alley only as instructed.
  • Do not assume renovation debris is a large item.
  • Use a rented container for major projects.

Do not create a curb pile first. Large item pickup is request-based. If you place a sofa, mattress, refrigerator or construction pile outside without scheduling, it may sit there and create a code, HOA or neighbor complaint problem.

Number 1 mistake: Plastic bags in the blue cart. They jam sorting machines and send entire truckloads to landfill. Take them to Kroger, Publix, or Target drop-off bins instead.
