How do I find my Newmarket trash pickup schedule?

Newmarket trash pickup schedule garbage collection is address-based. Use the Town of Newmarket Waste and Recycling Calendar or the Recycle Coach app to confirm your exact pickup day. Garbage is collected every other week, green bin organics are collected weekly, recycling is collected bi-weekly in 2026, and yard waste runs every other week from April to early December.

Set waste at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day and no earlier than 5 p.m. the night before. Remove emptied containers and any uncollected material by 8 p.m. on collection day.

Newmarket residents should not guess pickup day from a neighbour, old magnet, or last year’s calendar. The safest path is the official address-based calendar or Recycle Coach. This is especially important in 2026 because recycling moved into the Circular Materials system and is now managed differently from garbage and green bin service.

1

Open the Town waste page

Start with the Town of Newmarket Waste and Organics page. It links to the 2026 Waste and Recycling Calendar and the Recycle Coach app.

2

Enter your exact service address

Use your actual Newmarket residential address, not just the street name. Apartment, townhouse and curbside homes can follow different building setups.

3

Separate each stream

Check garbage, green bin, recycling, yard waste and large-item timing separately. They do not all run weekly.

4

Set reminders

Use Recycle Coach reminders so you do not miss alternating garbage/recycling weeks, yard-waste windows or holiday adjustments.

Best local move: Download Recycle Coach and turn on reminders. It helps with collection dates, “what goes where,” program updates and missed-collection prevention.

Newmarket 2026 Collection Overview — Garbage, Green Bin, Recycling, Yard Waste and Large Items

Newmarket’s curbside system is simple only after you separate each stream. Garbage is every other week. Green bin is weekly. Recycling is bi-weekly in 2026 and is managed by Circular Materials and GFL, not by the Town. Yard waste is seasonal every other week. Large items require tags and booking.

2026 recycling trap: Do not assume recycling still follows an old weekly pattern. Newmarket says recycling is bi-weekly on your scheduled collection day under the Circular Materials program. Check the 2026 calendar before putting the cart out.

Garbage

Newmarket Garbage Collection Rules — Bag Limits, Tags, Weight and Wrong-Week Mistakes

Garbage is collected every other week on your scheduled collection day. If your garbage is left behind, the first thing to check is not the truck. Check whether it was the correct garbage week, whether you exceeded the limit, whether the container was too heavy, and whether you used tags correctly.

Regular Garbage Limit
  • Maximum of 3 garbage bags or containers every other week.
  • Maximum weight: 22 kg / 50 lb per bag or container.
  • Garbage must be out by 7 a.m. on the scheduled day.
  • Do not place garbage on the road or sidewalk.
  • Keep your garbage separate from neighbours’ material.
Extra Garbage Tags
  • Up to 3 additional bags/containers can be set out with tags.
  • Total maximum: 6 bags/containers when 3 are properly tagged.
  • Garbage tags are sold in sets of 5 for $15.
  • Tag must be visible to the collector.
  • Attach tags to the bag neck or top garbage bag inside a container, not the outside of the container.

Moving-house tip: If you just moved, do not pile six bags out without tags. Buy tags first or take extra garbage to an approved York Region depot if the Town/GFL rules do not fit your cleanup.

Organics

Newmarket Green Bin Pickup — Weekly Organics Collection and Common Rejection Reasons

Green bin organics are collected every week on your scheduled collection day. The green bin is usually the easiest stream to get right, but it is also one of the easiest to contaminate with the wrong liner, loose material or overweight bins.

Green Bin Checklist
  • Set green bin at the curb by 7 a.m.
  • Do not set it out earlier than 5 p.m. the night before.
  • Remove emptied bins and uncollected material by 8 p.m.
  • Keep bags inside tied and contained.
  • Use Recycle Coach if you are unsure where an item belongs.
Why Green Bin Gets Missed
  • It was not at the curb by 7 a.m.
  • Green bin was unaccepted or oversized.
  • Black garbage bags were used as liners.
  • Green bin exceeded the weight limit.
  • Bags inside the green bin were not tied or material was loose.

Broken green bin? Town-issued damaged Blue Bins and Green Bins can be replaced by calling GFL at 1-866-421-5625 to arrange an exchange.

Newmarket Recycling Pickup 2026 — Circular Materials, GFL and Bi-Weekly Collection

Recycling in Newmarket is managed by Circular Materials and its contractor GFL under Ontario’s producer-led Blue Box system. The Town says recycling is collected bi-weekly on your scheduled collection day, and residents should use the 2026 calendar and Circular Materials/Newmarket resources for the current program.

Recycling Do This
  • Check the 2026 calendar for your bi-weekly recycling day.
  • Use the current recycling cart/bin system for Newmarket.
  • Keep materials loose, clean and inside the cart where required.
  • Use Circular Materials/Newmarket for updated accepted materials.
  • Email n6recycling@gflenv.com or call 1-833-779-4351 for recycling program questions.
Recycling Avoid This
  • Do not place Blue Bin materials in plastic bags.
  • Do not use closed, taped, tied or bungee-secured blue bins.
  • Do not put plastic film, grocery bags or foam packaging in the blue bin.
  • Do not put drinking glasses, ceramics, mirrors or light bulbs in the blue bin.
  • Do not leave material outside the cart/bin if the current program requires it inside.

Sorting shortcut: If you are not 100% sure, use Recycle Coach or York Region’s Bindicator before you put the item in the blue box, green bin or garbage. Guessing creates “oops” stickers and missed pickups.

Seasonal Yard Waste

Newmarket Yard Waste Collection — April to Early December, Bundles, Bags and Rejected Items

Yard waste is collected every other week from April to early December on your scheduled collection day. Do not sweep leaves onto the road. The Town warns that dumping leaves or waste on roads can cause flooding at storm drains and can create by-law issues.

Accepted Yard Waste
  • Leaves, shrubbery, brush and tree trimmings.
  • Flowers, weeds and plants with soil removed.
  • Pumpkins, corn stalks, hay and straw.
  • Branches tied in secure bundles using jute or cotton twine.
  • Kraft paper yard waste bags or labelled reusable open-top containers.
Size and Weight Rules
  • Each yard waste container or bundle must not exceed 22 kg / 50 lb.
  • Bundles must be less than 1.2 m / 4 ft long.
  • Bundles must be less than 0.6 m / 2 ft in diameter.
  • Individual branches must be less than 10 cm / 4 in in diameter.
  • Reusable open-top containers must be labelled with a yellow Yard Waste sticker.

Rejected yard waste examples: grass clippings, thatch, rocks, stumps, dirt, soil, sod, root balls, kitchen scraps, animal droppings, treated wood, painted wood, garbage, oversized bundles and loose branches.

Large Items

Newmarket Large Item Pickup — Furniture, Mattresses, Tags and GFL Booking Deadline

Large items are not picked up just because they are sitting at the curb. Newmarket requires a large item tag and a GFL booking before the item is placed out. To have items collected on your scheduled garbage day, requests must be received no later than 11 a.m. on the Monday of your garbage collection week.

Large Item Steps
  1. Buy a large item tag online or from a Town facility.
  2. Call GFL at 1-866-421-5625 to schedule pickup.
  3. Attach one large item tag to each item.
  4. Place no more than five items for one collection.
  5. Put items out by 7 a.m. on your scheduled garbage collection day.
Do Not Do This
  • Do not drag furniture out before booking.
  • Do not assume large items go with regular garbage.
  • Do not place large mirrors at the curb.
  • Do not place large glass items without removing glass first where required.
  • Do not expect late Monday bookings to be collected the same week.

Cost note: Town pages list a Large Item Tag at $17. Garbage bag tags are sold in sets of five for $15. Confirm current fees before purchase because municipal fees can change.

Missed Pickup

Missed Collection in Newmarket — What to Check Before Calling GFL

If your material was not collected, do not call immediately before checking the obvious causes. Newmarket and GFL list repeated reasons for missed pickup: late set-out, wrong week, overweight containers, wrong container, too much garbage, black bags in the green bin, loose green bin material, oversized yard waste, or items that require a tag or depot drop-off.

1

Wait for the service window

GFL says collection times can vary between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Do not chase the truck or report too early if routes are still active.

2

Check stream and week

Garbage, recycling and yard waste are not all weekly. Wrong-week set-out is one of the most common missed-pickup reasons.

3

Check the sticker or rejection reason

If an “oops” sticker was left, follow the sticker reason first. Fix the problem and set it out next proper collection day.

4

Report to GFL

If none of the reasons apply, call GFL at 1-866-421-5625 or email WasteLine@gflenv.com.

Number 1 mistake: Plastic bags in the blue cart. They jam sorting machines and send entire truckloads to landfill. Take them to Kroger, Publix, or Target drop-off bins instead.
