  • Place the cart handle facing away from the street.
  • Keep the cart no more than five feet from the curb.
  • Leave at least three feet of clearance on both sides.
  • Remove the cart from the street by midnight after pickup.
  • Do not use the garbage cart for yard waste, tires, electronics or liquid paint.

  • Yard waste goes out the business day after garbage day.
  • Use bags, boxes or cans smaller than 30 gallons.
  • Keep each container under 50 pounds.

Weekly Garbage

Little Rock Garbage Collection Rules — Cart Placement, 7 AM Deadline and Missed Pickup Fixes

Little Rock household garbage is collected weekly in a City-provided cart. Because the system uses a hydraulic arm, placement matters. A cart blocked by a vehicle, too close to another cart, facing the wrong way or placed too far from the curb can lead to missed service.

Correct Cart Placement

  • Place cart at the collection point by 7:00 AM.
  • Handle should face away from the street.
  • Cart should be no more than five feet from the curb.
  • Maintain at least three feet of clearance on each side.
  • Keep away from parked cars, mailboxes, poles and low branches.
  • Remove cart from the street by midnight after pickup.

Common Reasons a Cart Gets Missed

  • Cart placed after 7:00 AM.
  • Handle facing the wrong way.
  • Cart more than five feet from the curb.
  • Cart blocked by vehicle or obstruction.
  • Extra waste beside cart without proper request.
  • Wrong material placed inside the cart.

Simple fix: If your cart is repeatedly missed, take a photo before 7:00 AM showing placement and clearance. Then call 311 with the photo details, address and scheduled collection day.

  • Use the 2026 recycling calendar to track Green and Gold weeks.

  • Plastic bags or bagged recyclables.
  • E-waste or batteries.
  • Tanglers such as hoses, cords or wires.
  • Organic waste or food waste.
  • Paint cans with liquid paint.
  • Propane tanks, tires, bulbs or hazardous waste.
