North Port Trash Pickup & Garbage Schedule 2026

North Port Trash Pickup Schedule 2026: Exact Day, Recycling Week, Bulk, Yard Waste & Local Disposal

North Port does not use one universal citywide collection weekday. Your service day is tied to the property address. The City provides two useful official tools: My Government Services GIS for property-level service information and Recycle Coach for the personalized garbage, recycling and yard-waste calendar.

City-served residential garbage is collected weekly. Yard waste is also weekly when properly prepared. Recycling is weekly, but North Port rotates the tan-lid paper tote and blue-lid commingle tote. Everything must be ready by 7:00 AM.

North Port Garbage Collection 2026: Quick Answer

Provider: eligible City properties are served by the City of North Port Public Works Department, Solid Waste Division.

Garbage: once each week in a City-issued garbage tote. Loose household garbage should be bagged, the lid must close and bungee cords must be removed.

Recycling: weekly, but two totes rotate. The tan lid is for accepted paper/cardboard/paperboard. The blue lid is for accepted glass, numbered plastics and cans.

Yard waste: once each week on the same scheduled day as garbage/recycling when it follows North Port’s preparation limits.

Set-out: after 6:00 PM the previous evening and no later than 7:00 AM on collection day.

Bulk: schedule it before putting it in the right-of-way. Eligible residences receive two free pickups of up to 5 cubic yards each per fiscal year, or one free pickup up to 10 cubic yards.

North Port 2026 Waste Guide — Jump Directly to What You Need

First: Make Sure North Port City Solid Waste Actually Serves the Property

The City of North Port Solid Waste District covers the City’s corporate limits, but residents should still verify the service address rather than relying on a mailing address or ZIP code. HOA, apartment, commercial and boundary-area properties can create confusion.

Choose the correct starting point before relying on any pickup schedule.
Property situation Best official starting point Resident action
Single-family / duplex within City service North Port My Government Services + Recycle Coach Verify the full street address, then record the collection day and current recycling tote.
Existing North Port house / rental City New Residency information form Update the City’s Solid Waste database; existing containers should remain at the property.
Newly constructed residence New Construction Resident Container form Request City containers before expecting regular service.
HOA or gated development City lookup + HOA/property manager Confirm whether City curbside service or a private contract applies.
Apartment / condo complex Property management Confirm whether the complex uses communal containers, City service or a commercial/private hauler.
Commercial property North Port Solid Waste Commercial Department Call Public Works. Residential free-bulk allowances should not be assumed for commercial accounts.
Outside North Port corporate limits Correct municipality/county provider Do not use the North Port residential schedule merely because the postal address says North Port.
Do not use a generic ZIP-code trash finder. ZIP codes can cross service boundaries, and a generic tool cannot identify North Port’s recycling rotation or City-specific route rules.

How to Find the Exact North Port Trash Pickup Day by Address

North Port residents have two useful official tools. They do different things, so using both gives a stronger answer than a generic “trash day” search.

🗺️

1. My Government Services GIS

The City’s GIS identifies property-level government services, including Solid Waste pickup days. It can also show other useful local data such as nearby government facilities and fire stations.

Official GIS: What to Do After the Map Opens

Micro Guide After opening My Government Services
  1. Use the map’s address/search control and enter the complete service address.
  2. Select the matching North Port property rather than a nearby intersection.
  3. Review the property information for Solid Waste / curbside service.
  4. Record the listed collection weekday.
  5. If the result looks incorrect, do not guess from neighboring streets. Confirm with Public Works at 941-240-8050.
  6. Next, open Recycle Coach to determine which recycling tote belongs on the curb for the exact week.
City GIS disclaimer: North Port provides GIS data for convenience and advises residents to confirm important information with City staff when complete accuracy is required. GIS questions can be sent to npgis@NorthPortFL.gov.

Recycle Coach: What to Do After the Schedule Opens

Micro Guide After opening Recycle Coach
  1. Enter the complete North Port service address.
  2. Select the matching property.
  3. Record the normal weekly collection day.
  4. Open the upcoming collection dates and determine whether the recycling entry corresponds to the paper/tan-lid or commingle/blue-lid rotation.
  5. Check any holiday-adjusted date instead of assuming the normal weekday.
  6. Enable push or email reminders if useful so the rotating recycling tote does not have to be remembered manually.
  7. Re-open the schedule during severe-weather weeks because a calendar is not a live route tracker.

North Port 2026 Recycling Calendar PDF — Explained

The official 2026 calendar uses two recycling categories: Commingle — Glass, Plastic & Cans and Paper — Paper, Cardboard & Paperboard. It also reminds residents that all containers must be curbside by 7 AM.

Official 2026 City PDF. A physical copy can also be obtained from City Hall, 4970 City Hall Boulevard, if you have difficulty printing it.
Micro Guide After opening the 2026 calendar
  1. Go to the month you need.
  2. Identify the date matching your address-based collection weekday.
  3. Read whether that week is marked for Paper or Commingle recycling.
  4. Match Paper to the tan-lid tote and Commingle to the blue-lid tote.
  5. Look for a holiday-related shift before using the normal date.
  6. Cross-check Recycle Coach when the calendar and your memory disagree.

North Port Cart Placement: The Rules That Can Decide Whether Your Tote Gets Collected

  • Put totes curbside no later than 7:00 AM.
  • Do not place totes curbside before 6:00 PM the previous evening.
  • Face the cart’s arrows toward the street.
  • Keep at least 5 feet of clearance from cars, fences, mailboxes, utility poles, trees and other obstacles.
  • Place the tote approximately 3 to 7 feet from the edge of the street, or on the driveway when possible.
  • Keep the lid closed.
  • Remove bungee cords before collection.
  • Do not position the automated cart in the middle of a bulk debris pile.
  • Return empty containers to the garage, side yard or rear yard no later than 10:00 PM on collection day.
Why the clearance matters: North Port uses automated collection equipment. The truck arm needs enough space to reach the cart, lift it and return it safely.

North Port’s Unusual One-Side-of-Street Garbage & Recycling System

This is one of the most important North Port-specific rules. Depending on the street, you may need to roll a garbage or recycling tote across the street for automated collection. The City says this system helps reduce collection costs and carbon emissions.

Your garbage placement pattern Recycling guidance from North Port
Garbage is collected on both sides of your street Recycling generally remains on your own side.
Your garbage tote stays on your side The City says recycling may be placed across the street.
Your garbage tote already goes across the street Recycling generally stays on your own side.
Not sure which side? Do not copy a neighbor blindly. Call Public Works at 941-240-8050 and ask staff to confirm the correct placement for your address.
Yard waste and bulk are different: they are not part of the one-side cart system. They should remain in front of your own residence.

North Port Recycling: What Goes in the Tan Lid and Blue Lid

North Port uses a dual-stream residential recycling program. Keeping paper separate from glass/plastic/cans is essential because the two totes rotate on different weeks.

📦

Tan Lid — Paper / Cardboard / Paperboard

  • Cardboard flattened and cut to fit.
  • Pizza boxes flattened with liner and food removed.
  • Newspapers.
  • Computer paper.
  • Brown paper bags.
  • Magazines and catalogs.
  • Brochures and mail.
  • Paperboard food boxes with liners removed.
  • Soda cartons.
  • Shoe and tissue boxes.
  • Paper towel rolls.
  • Gift boxes.
♻️

Blue Lid — Commingle

  • Rinsed plastics #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7.
  • Rinsed food and beverage glass containers.
  • Rinsed steel, tin and aluminum cans.
  • Empty aerosol cans.
  • Drink boxes.
  • Milk and juice cartons.
  • Rinsed aluminum foil trays.
  • Accepted numbered plastic food containers.
Shredded paper is not accepted in North Port recycling. The City’s current recycling guidance says to place shredded paper in the garbage.

Common Contaminants That Should Stay Out

Plastic Bags & Film

Shopping bags, plastic film, tarps, plastic promotional mailers and similar flexible plastics are not accepted.

#6 Plastic / Styrofoam

North Port accepts numbered plastics 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Number 6 and Styrofoam are excluded.

Non-container Glass

Window glass, mirrors, glassware, dishes and ceramics do not belong in the blue-lid recycling tote.

Clothing & Shoes

Textiles and shoes should not be placed in the curbside recycling tote.

Wires & Hangers

Tangling material such as wires and hangers is not accepted in the commingle recycling tote.

Chemical Containers

Empty chemical containers are specifically excluded from the regular curbside recycling list.

Record Your Recycling Tote Serial Number

North Port recycling containers carry identifying serial numbers. Recording the number can help distinguish your tote if containers are moved or mixed up after collection. Public Works can help verify City container records.

North Port Holiday Trash Schedule 2026

North Port Solid Waste lists five no-collection holidays: New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. When one of these falls during the workweek, service is delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

Exact 2026 calendar dates and practical resident action.
Holiday 2026 date Normal City rule What residents should do
New Year’s Day Thursday, Jan. 1 No collection Thursday → Friday; Friday → Saturday under the one-day slide rule.
Independence Day Saturday, July 4 No collection holiday Because July 4 itself falls Saturday, do not invent a weekday slide. Check Recycle Coach for the address/date.
Labor Day Monday, Sept. 7 No Monday collection Monday → Tuesday, Tuesday → Wednesday, Wednesday → Thursday, Thursday → Friday, Friday → Saturday.
Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26 No collection Thursday → Friday; Friday → Saturday.
Christmas Day Friday, Dec. 25 No collection Friday → Saturday.
North Port collects on other holidays. The City specifically confirmed normal Solid Waste service for Juneteenth in 2026, illustrating why residents should not assume every government holiday delays garbage.

North Port Garbage Tote Rules

  • Residential garbage is collected once per week.
  • Household garbage must be placed in a City-issued garbage tote.
  • Bag loose garbage before putting it inside the tote.
  • The lid must close.
  • Remove bungee cords before collection.
  • North Port identifies a maximum garbage-tote weight of 200 pounds.
  • The City container serial number belongs to one registered service address.
  • Containers should not be permanently removed from an address by residents.

Do Not Put These in the Regular Garbage Tote

Yard Material

Brush, yard waste and grass clippings belong in the separate yard-waste program.

Heavy Earth Material

Rocks and dirt are excluded from normal household garbage collection.

Construction Debris

Construction and demolition material needs an appropriate container, landfill or other disposal route.

Hazardous Material

HHW and flammable substances require special disposal.

Medical Waste

Sharps and other medical-waste categories should follow the City’s safety programs.

Tires

Tires are excluded from regular North Port garbage and bulk pickup.

North Port requires recyclable materials and yard waste to be separated from garbage. The City warns that garbage containing those separated waste streams may not be collected.

Source-conflict note: some assessment documents discuss older/technical container-size categories, while the current resident garbage and recycling pages advertise 65- and 95-gallon choices. For a resident ordering or swapping a tote, use the current customer-service page or request form rather than an older assessment methodology.

North Port Solid Waste Official Form Directory — Exact Form for Each Task

This is more useful than sending every resident to one generic contact page. The links below are the exact forms linked by the City’s Solid Waste Online Request Form Center.

City request timing: online requests should be submitted at least one business day before the collection or delivery date and before 4:30 PM. Requests submitted after 4:30 PM, on weekends or on holidays are not entered until the next business day. For a Monday bulk pickup, the City specifically gives Friday before 4:30 PM as the example cutoff.

North Port Bulk Trash Pickup — Exact Allowance, Timing & Placement

North Port defines bulk as household material that does not fit in the garbage tote with the lid closed, exceeds the tote’s 200-pound maximum, or otherwise requires large-item collection.

Included Option A

2 pickups/year
Up to 5 cubic yards each.

Included Option B

1 pickup/year
Up to 10 cubic yards.

Request Deadline

At least one business day before collection and before 4:30 PM.

Earliest Set-Out

No earlier than 48 hours before the scheduled pickup.

The fiscal-year bulk allowance runs October 1 through September 30. A 5-cubic-yard pile is roughly a 5 ft × 5 ft × 5 ft reference volume.

Bulk Placement Checklist

  • Schedule the pickup first.
  • After confirmation, do not set material out more than 48 hours early.
  • Have it ready by 7 AM on the scheduled day.
  • Keep the pile away from power lines and low branches.
  • Keep it away from poles and mailboxes.
  • Separate garbage bulk from bulk yard waste when requesting both.
  • Do not put bulk debris in a personal container that you expect the driver to leave behind. North Port warns that all curbside items can be collected and personal containers accidentally collected are not reimbursed.
Do not set bulk out before scheduling. North Port states that unscheduled right-of-way bulk may still be collected but can result in a fee. Material set out too early can also result in a Code Enforcement notice.

  • Lot-clearing debris.
  • Stained, painted, treated or untreated lumber.

Do not use plastic bags, cardboard boxes or recycling totes for ordinary yard waste.
Yard waste stays on your side. Place it in front of your residence at least 5 feet from the automated garbage cart. The one-side-of-street cart system does not apply to yard debris.

Why a City Yard Tote May Be Useful

North Port promotes the optional 95-gallon brown yard-waste tote as a way to reduce paper-bag purchases, reduce tying/bundling for smaller material and reduce wear on personal containers. The current one-time lease price is $133.10.

North Port Residential Dumpster & Roll-Off Rental — 2026 City Rates

Residents doing a larger cleanout or renovation can rent temporary containers from North Port Solid Waste. This is not the same as the two included residential bulk pickups.

Placement requires City approval. Temporary containers normally must be on property you own. They cannot simply be placed in the street, right-of-way or sidewalk. If a right-of-way placement is needed, a right-of-way permit and Customer Service confirmation are required before delivery.

Renovation & Construction Debris: Do Not Treat It as Ordinary North Port Bulk Trash

Construction and demolition debris is excluded from ordinary North Port garbage. For renovations, residents may need a City temporary container or direct disposal at the Sarasota County landfill.

🏠

Small / Planned Project

Review North Port’s temporary dumpster or roll-off rates and request a residential rental.

🏗️

Roof Replacement

North Port’s rental instructions require a roll-off of at least 20 cubic yards for roof-replacement material.

🧱

Concrete / Tile

Heavy-material roll-offs can only be filled halfway under the City’s rental instructions.

Sarasota County Landfill for North Port Residents: Address, ID, Hours & Current Rates

North Port Electronic Waste: Computer vs. TV Rules

North Port’s current guidance makes an important distinction: not every electronic item follows the same disposal route.

Item North Port route What to do
Computer tower E-waste collection Call Public Works at 941-240-8050 to schedule.
Laptop E-waste collection Erase personal data and schedule through Public Works.
Tablet E-waste collection Erase data and schedule collection.
Cell phone / hard drive Electronic-waste guidance Terminate service where needed, remove SIM and erase data.
Television Garbage / bulk under current City guidance If it will not fit in the garbage tote with the lid closed, schedule bulk pickup.
Printer / computer monitor Garbage / bulk under current City guidance Schedule bulk if it does not fit the ordinary garbage tote.
Do not place North Port’s recyclable e-waste categories such as computer towers, laptops and tablets inside the automated garbage tote.

Household Hazardous Waste for North Port Residents

North Port does not have an ordinary weekly HHW route. The City states that it partners with Sarasota County for spring and fall HHW events, and County facilities provide year-round disposal options.

2026 event-date transparency: North Port’s spring HHW event occurred earlier in 2026. The City’s reviewed pages state that spring and fall events are held, but a verified fall 2026 event date was not located during this August 30 review. Do not reuse a 2025 event date; check the official HHW/Event Directory before planning a trip.

North Port Curbside Options for Oil and Batteries

Used Motor Oil

Put up to one gallon in an empty screw-top plastic jug, label it USED MOTOR OIL and place it beside the recycling tote on collection day.

Rechargeable Batteries

North Port’s HHW instructions direct residents to bag qualifying rechargeable batteries and place them on top of the paper recycling tote.

Automotive / Marine / Farm Batteries

These can be placed next to the recycling tote on the normal scheduled collection day under current City guidance.

Ordinary alkaline AA/AAA batteries: North Port and Sarasota County guidance says ordinary alkaline household batteries may be placed in regular garbage.

Free Sharps Exchange & Medication Drop-Off in North Port

These programs are especially useful because sharps and medications should not be treated like ordinary curbside recycling.

North Port Fire Rescue Sharps Exchange — No Cost

Household needles, syringes and lancets must be placed in an approved rigid, leakproof and puncture-resistant container.

Missed North Port Garbage, Recycling or Yard Waste: Troubleshoot Before Reporting

A tote left behind is not automatically proof that the truck skipped the street. North Port has several local preparation rules that can cause a collection problem.

  1. Confirm the address schedule. Re-open My Government Services or Recycle Coach.
  2. Check the holiday date. A City no-collection holiday may have shifted the weekday.
  3. Confirm the 7 AM deadline. North Port does not guarantee collection for material set out after 7 AM.
  4. Check the arrows. Automated-tote arrows should face the street.
  5. Check 5-foot clearance. Look for a parked car, mailbox, pole, tree, fence or another obstacle.
  6. Check the correct recycling tote. A tan-lid tote on a blue-lid week is not the correct scheduled stream.
  7. Check contamination. Yard waste or recyclable material mixed into garbage can result in a non-collection.
  8. Submit the exact missed-collection form. Use the City’s request for Garbage, Recycle or Yard Waste.

Missing, Damaged or Wrong-Size North Port Tote

Missing Tote

Check both sides of the street and neighboring collection points, then use the missing-container form or call 941-240-8050.

🔧

Damaged Tote

Use the City’s Repair or Replace Damaged Container request.

↕️

Wrong Size

Current resident pages advertise 65- and 95-gallon garbage/recycling totes. One eligible size change per fiscal year is free.

Vehicle-hit tote: North Port tells residents to obtain a North Port Police report and then contact Public Works with the report number.

Moving to North Port: Containers Stay With the Property

Existing Home

City containers should already be at the residence. The previous owner is expected to leave the containers because their serial numbers are tied to the service property.

Existing Rental / New Resident

Submit the New Residency information form so Solid Waste can update the City’s database.

Open New Residency form

New Construction

Use the New Construction Resident Container form. The City states that containers are delivered on the next collection day after the request is processed/scheduled.

Request new-construction containers

Just Moved and Have a Mountain of Cardboard?

North Port offers a separate courtesy extra-cardboard collection request. Use that service rather than assuming oversized flattened boxes will be handled as ordinary garbage.

North Port Walk-Up Collection for Residents With Physical Disabilities

North Port offers special collection assistance for qualifying residents with a physical disability that prevents them from moving containers to the normal collection point.

  1. Open the City’s Garbage page. Scroll to the “Walk-Up Service” section.
  2. Download the Walk-Up Service Application PDF.
  3. Complete the resident portion.
  4. Have a licensed medical professional complete the physician certification.
  5. Return the completed application to:
    North Port Solid Waste
    1100 N. Chamberlain Boulevard
    North Port, FL 34286
  6. Fax alternative: 941-240-8063.
  7. Questions: call 941-240-8050.
The physician certification includes qualification for a physical disability affecting the resident’s ability to place Solid Waste containers at the required location. Temporary qualification can include an expiration date.

North Port Solid Waste Assessment Notice: What the August 2026 Numbers Actually Mean

North Port’s Solid Waste District uses a non-ad valorem assessment based on the service benefit provided to residential property rather than the property’s taxable value.

FY 2026-27 noticed component Amount Meaning
Regular annual assessment $332.75 Regular residential Solid Waste assessment.
Proposed transfer-station assessment $128.01 Proposed one-time transfer-station amount.
Not-to-exceed noticed total $460.76 Not the same as saying the regular collection rate permanently increased 38.47%.

Why North Port Is Planning a Transfer Station

The City says a local transfer station is intended to reduce the distance collection trucks spend hauling directly to the landfill, which can reduce fuel use, truck wear and the need for additional collection vehicles and employees as North Port grows.

The City’s current public explanation also says the selected “pay-as-you-go” funding approach is intended to avoid interest and long-term debt associated with borrowing for the facility.

Properties north of the Myakka River are described differently in the City’s current transfer-station notice because those collection vehicles are closer to the landfill and are expected to continue direct hauling. North Port also owns property intended for a future Wellen Park-area transfer facility, which would require its own future funding approach.
Do not mix old feasibility-study projections with the current assessment notice. Older studies contain assumptions and savings estimates from an earlier analysis. Current billing decisions should be based on the City’s current FY 2026-27 notice and adopted rates.

Hurricane & Storm Debris in North Port

Hurricane debris collection can operate differently from the normal weekly garbage, yard and bulk programs. North Port directs residents to separate disaster debris into distinct categories.

1. Household Hazardous Waste

Paint, chemicals and similar hazardous material.

2. Electronics

Keep electronics separate from vegetative and building debris.

3. Appliances

Whitegoods and appliances form their own debris category.

4. Construction / Demolition

Building materials remain separate from vegetation.

5. Vegetative Debris

Branches, limbs and storm vegetation form a separate pile.

6. Everyday Household Trash

Bagged household garbage stays separate from disaster debris.

Do Not Block Critical Infrastructure

  • Do not stack storm debris against trees.
  • Keep it away from utility poles.
  • Keep fire hydrants accessible.
  • Keep meters accessible.
  • Do not block roadways.
  • Do not block storm drains.
No fake storm pickup date: emergency debris collection is activated and adjusted based on actual storm conditions. Use North Port’s live official Alerts page rather than assuming the normal bulk schedule applies.
