Trash provider: City of Pittsfield residential curbside service operated by Casella Waste Management.
Normal frequency: trash is collected once each week on the street’s assigned weekday.

Cart positioning: wheels toward the house/curb, approximately 3 feet from carts or other obstacles and approximately 4 feet of clearance overhead.
Regular extra bags: bags outside or on top of the cart are not collected.

Who Actually Collects Pittsfield Trash?
City of Pittsfield
The City provides the municipal residential program and publishes the route map, calendar, cart rules, bulky program, additional-cart process and resident disposal guidance.
Casella Waste Management
Casella operates the City’s automated residential cart collection. The City lists Casella customer service at 413-453-0098.
Public Works
For municipal waste questions, missed pickup, accessibility, extra-cart status or uncertainty about a route, use 413-499-9330.
Does Municipal Curbside Service Apply to Your Pittsfield Property?
Pittsfield’s City Code limits municipal solid-waste collection to residential structures containing four or fewer living units. A four-family property can also have separate service-charge rules.
| Property | Starting assumption | Best next action |
|---|---|---|
| Single-family home | Municipal cart service normally applies | Find street on official route map. |
| Two- or three-family residence | May receive City curbside collection | Confirm carts and route; call DPW if service is unclear. |
| Four-family property | City Code allows service but special charge rules may apply | Confirm current 2026 owner-occupancy / service-charge treatment with DPW. |
| More than four units | Do not assume house curbside rules apply | Ask landlord/property manager who provides the building’s service. |
| Commercial or mixed-use building | May use private commercial service | Confirm the actual hauler with management. |
Find Your Exact Pittsfield Trash Pickup Day
- Start with the complete service street. ZIP code 01201 alone is not enough because the route map divides Pittsfield into multiple weekday routes.
- Open the official street map. Zoom until you can follow the colored line running along the exact street.
- Match the color to the legend. Red Monday, green Tuesday, blue Wednesday, orange Thursday and purple Friday.
- Save that as the normal weekday. That day remains your route identity even when a holiday temporarily shifts the actual date.
- Open the 2026 recycling calendar separately. Determine the recycling material stream and any holiday adjustment.
- If the street is close to a route boundary, do not interpolate. Call DPW at 413-499-9330.

How to Read the Pittsfield 2026 Recycling Calendar

Gray-Shaded Week
Fill the recycling cart with accepted paper and cardboard.
Blue-Shaded Week
Fill the recycling cart with accepted metal cans, bottles, jars, tubs, jugs and other listed containers.

Pittsfield Household Garbage Rules
Weekly
Municipal household trash is collected once each week on the assigned route day.
48-Gallon Toter
Each eligible household is issued a standardized 48-gallon trash cart.

- Do not use the household trash cart for construction debris.
- Do not mix yard waste into household trash.
- Do not put hazardous waste into an ordinary cart.
- Do not assume an item becomes “bulk trash” simply because it is too large for the toter; check the bulky accepted/excluded list first.

What to Do After Opening the HHW Page
- Look at the top of the page for a new 2026 date or registration notice.

- When a new registration opens, select the available appointment process.
- The prior program used mandatory pre-registration and did not accept walk-ins.
- Residents without computer access can call DPW/DPU at 413-499-9330 for registration assistance.

Pittsfield Government-Source Audit: Stale or Conflicting Details You Should Know
High-quality local guidance should not silently combine government pages that disagree. These are the conflicts found during the 2026 review and the safest resident response.
| Official source issue | What the page says | How this guide resolves it |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Station annual sticker | Page displays $120 standard / $80 senior / $20 additional vehicle, but says the sticker is valid through Dec. 31, 2025. | Do not label those annual rates as verified 2026 rates. Call 413-749-6500. |
| Yard-waste bags | Main Trash page says bags are not allowed; drop-off page describes a punch card good for “20 bags.” | Call the Transfer Station before bringing bagged yard waste. |
| HHW event | Current page still shows the Nov. 8, 2025 event and says to stay tuned for the 2026 date. | Do not invent or recycle the old event date. |
| Textile drop-off count | Page says three sites but visibly lists only two addresses. | Publish the two visible locations only and recheck before travel. |
| Bulky-sticker grocery retailer | Apr. 15 PDF says Price Chopper; current City web page says Market 32. | City Clerk/DPW are clearer choices; call a private retailer first. |
| Older “How-To” PDF | Useful cart mechanics remain, but the document contains an older calendar. | Use the current 2026 calendar for dates and the current City portal for rules. |
