Frankfort Trash Pickup Schedule 2026: Quick Resident Answer

City garbage is collected once each week. Tuesday covers neighborhoods such as Bellepoint, North Frankfort and Thornhill; Wednesday includes Capital View and Schenkelwood; Thursday includes Eastover, Indian Hills and Silver Lake; and Friday includes South Frankfort, Tanglewood and Westwood.

Put the cart at the curb the evening before or by 6:00 AM. Keep at least three feet of clearance from vehicles, mailboxes, trees, poles and other carts. Point the handle and lid hinge toward the residence, close the lid and remove the cart from the right-of-way that evening.

City recycling follows alternating A and B weeks on the property’s normal garbage weekday. Bulky items and loose brush require advance scheduling through Public Works. Addresses outside city limits normally use Franklin County’s Republic Services schedule instead.

The first step is jurisdiction. A Frankfort mailing address does not automatically prove that City crews serve the property.

How to Confirm Your Frankfort Pickup Schedule

1. Identify the service jurisdiction. Confirm whether the property receives City collection, Franklin County Republic Services collection or private property-management service.
2. Use the complete service address. Include the street number, full street name and ZIP code. Do not rely only on a neighborhood name when the property is near a route boundary.
3. Confirm the normal garbage weekday. City residents can use the route list and official map below. County residents should use the County address calendar or Republic Services schedule.
4. Confirm the recycling pattern. City residents need both the normal weekday and the correct A or B group. County recycling follows the address-specific Republic Services calendar.
5. Check a current holiday or emergency notice. A normal route does not override a date-specific City, County or hauler announcement.

Frankfort Garbage Cart Placement Rules

City residential collection is provided to qualifying residential units not exceeding eight units per plot. The City supplies wheeled 64- or 96-gallon trash and recycling carts at no initial cost.

Paying the Trash-Cart Exchange Fee

Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. In-person payment goes to Public Works at City Hall, 315 W Second Street. Mailed requests go to City of Frankfort, Attention: Public Works, P.O. Box 697, Frankfort, KY 40602.

Include the property address, requested 64- or 96-gallon size, the requester’s name and a telephone number. After the request is processed, crews normally exchange carts on the regular collection day.

Frankfort A and B Recycling Groups

City recycling runs every other week. The cart is collected on the normal garbage weekday only when that address’s A or B group is active.

The City does not use one permanent “one day late” formula. Date-specific notices may combine two routes on one day and suspend bulky-item or brush collection.

Frankfort Bulky-Item Pickup

Appliances, old furniture and similar large items require an appointment. Once accepted and scheduled, a normal eligible bulky item is collected on the address’s regular garbage day at no charge.

1. List every item. Count separate pieces such as a mattress and box spring, sofa, chair, appliance or carpet bundle.
2. Call Public Works before set-out. Ask whether the load qualifies for the normal no-cost appointment or the paid bulk/move-out service.
3. Confirm the scheduled date. Normal bulky collection usually occurs on the regular garbage day.
4. Prepare special items. Remove refrigerator doors. Cut and tie carpet into four-foot sections weighing no more than 50 pounds.
5. Separate prohibited material. Do not add construction debris, tires, fuel tanks, metal poles, swing sets or hazardous waste.

Temporary-Cart Rules from the Official Bulk PDF

• Up to ten 96-gallon carts may be requested when available.
• The City may substitute approximately 12–15 smaller 64-gallon carts when larger carts are unavailable.
• Delivery is normally within five business days after payment, subject to availability and approval.
• Carts may remain for up to 30 days unless another arrangement is approved.
• Keeping carts longer may trigger a $75 replacement fee per cart.
• Each separate collection counts as another pickup and requires prepayment.
• Place all carts and approved bulky material out on the same scheduled day to avoid another charge.
• Waste inside a cart must not exceed 250 pounds.
• Damage caused by overloading, fire or vandalism may result in a $75 cart replacement fee.
• Construction debris is not accepted in this program.

Extra Garbage and City Overflow Bags

Ordinary bags placed beside a full cart are not automatically collected. Extra household garbage must be placed in a prepaid City of Frankfort overflow bag.

Natural Holiday Trees

Natural holiday trees are collected as yard waste during December and January. Remove decorations, tinsel, nails and metal stands.

Frankfort Loose-Leaf Collection

The City’s yard-waste guidance describes loose-leaf vacuum collection from October 1 through December 31. After December 31, leaves must be prepared as regular yard waste.

Missed Frankfort Garbage or Recycling Pickup

The City says collection crews generally cannot return after servicing a street. Check the route and set-out conditions before filing a concern.

1. Confirm City versus County service. Calling the wrong government or hauler delays resolution.
2. Confirm the normal weekday. Use the published route list, map or address-based County calendar.
3. Verify the 6:00 AM deadline. A cart set out after the truck passed is late even when nearby streets are serviced later.
4. Check spacing and material. Confirm three-foot clearance, closed lid, correct cart orientation and no prohibited items.
5. For recycling, confirm the A/B week. A cart placed out during the other group’s week is not a missed recycling route.
6. Check holiday or emergency notices. Determine whether the entire street was delayed.
7. Report the service problem. City residents should call Public Works or use the concern form. County residents should contact Republic Services.

Frankfort Electronics Recycling

The City offers free e-scrap drop-off for Franklin County residents, local businesses and nonprofit organizations. Electronics are not collected at the curb because of data-security and handling concerns.

Franklin County KY Trash Pickup Schedule

Republic Services is Franklin County’s trash and recycling hauler. County carts must be outside by 6:00 AM, preferably the night before, with at least three feet between carts and nearby obstacles.

After confirming that the property is in the County service area, use the official address calendar for the live schedule.

Eligible Frankfort and Franklin County households can obtain a permanent voucher ID for up to four qualifying Saturday landfill visits per calendar year.

Household Hazardous Waste and Tires

Liquid paint, solvents, fuel, acids and similar hazardous products should not go in an ordinary cart or storm drain. Franklin County holds two household hazardous-waste events each year.

Tires are excluded from normal City bulky pickup and landfill vouchers. Franklin County participates in Kentucky’s rotating Waste Tire Amnesty program, but events typically return on a multi-year cycle and are subject to funding. Confirm a current event rather than assuming free tire disposal is available.
