Quick answer

How does Garland trash pickup work?

Garland trash pickup schedule garbage collection is address-based. Green trash carts are collected weekly. Brush and bulky goods are collected weekly on the same day as your regular trash collection. Blue recycling carts are collected every other week based on the City’s blue/yellow recycling schedule. Use MyGarland to enter your address and confirm your collection day, recycling week color, City Council district and nearby city services.

Open MyGarland

Use the official map tool and enter your Garland service address. If you recently moved in, use the physical property address, not only a mailing address.

2

Check trash day and recycling color

Trash, recycling, brush and bulky are tied to the address. Trash is weekly, recycling is every other week, and brush/bulky follows the same day as trash.

3

Save your pickup pattern

Save your trash day and blue/yellow recycling week in your phone. Recycling confusion is common because the cart goes out every other week, not weekly.

4

Check city alerts during holiday weeks

Garland can post holiday service notices. Do not assume a one-day delay unless the City or Sanitation notice says so.

Local resident tip: If you live near an alley, corner lot, apartment-style development, or a street with parked vehicles, confirm the official set-out location for your carts and bulky piles. Blocked material may not be collected.

Cart placement

Garland Garbage Set-Out Rules — Green Cart Timing, Overflow and Rejected Trash

Garland’s green roll cart is for regular household trash. The City tells residents to place the container outside by 7 AM on the designated collection day and leave it out until at least 7 PM. Sanitation crews can work from 7 AM to 8 PM, so a cart that is still full at noon is not automatically a missed pickup.

Do This for the Green Trash Cart

  • Place the cart outside by 7 AM on your collection day.
  • Leave the cart out until at least 7 PM.
  • Keep regular household trash inside the green cart.
  • Request repair or replacement if the lid, wheels or cart are damaged beyond use.
  • Contact Sanitation if you need an additional cart.

Avoid This

  • Do not place household chemicals in the trash cart.
  • Do not place electronics in the green cart.
  • Do not put household garbage outside the cart and expect brush/bulky crews to take it.
  • Do not mix brush with furniture, appliances or bagged yard waste.
  • Do not report a missed cart before the collection window has passed.

Additional carts: Garland says residents may request up to two additional trash containers, for a total of three. Additional green trash containers have a monthly service charge. The City retains ownership of trash carts, so extra carts should be handled through Customer Service when you move.

Blue cart

Garland Recycling Schedule 2026 — Blue Cart, Blue/Yellow Week and What Goes Inside

Garland recycling is collected in blue roll carts every other week. Your address is assigned to a blue or yellow recycling week. The pickup day is the same general service day shown in MyGarland, but the recycling week alternates.

Accepted Recycling Basics

  • Recycle empty, clean and dry bottles, jars, cans, boxes, cartons and paper.
  • Keep recycling loose inside the blue cart.
  • Plastics #1 through #5 and #7 are accepted.
  • Use the Garland Waste Wizard when an item is confusing.
  • When in doubt, throw it out if it is not listed as acceptable.

Do Not Put in the Blue Cart

  • No plastic bags, plastic wrap or Styrofoam.
  • No food or liquids.
  • No diapers or to-go containers.
  • No hoses, wires or batteries.
  • No propane tanks.
  • No wish-cycling items just because they look recyclable.

Recycling mistake to avoid: Bagged recycling can cause problems. Keep recyclables loose in the blue cart. Plastic bags should stay out of the curbside recycling cart unless the official Garland recycling page says otherwise.

Construction Debris Rule

Construction and demolition waste may be set out only when it comes from small household remodeling projects completed by the resident. Garland says construction and demolition waste may only be set out four times per calendar year.

Large projects should use the residential roll-off program, landfill, transfer station or a private hauling option.

Free resident haul option: Garland says residents can haul bulky waste material at no cost to the Transfer Station or C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill. Residents must present a driver’s license and a copy of the most current utility bill.

Premium brush collection: Garland offers fee-based premium brush collection for brush placed in a paved alley, oversized brush piles, commercial brush piles, or collection on a day other than the scheduled collection day. Staff performs an on-site assessment and gives a price and collection date.
