Match Your Waste to the Right Kingsport Route
Kingsport collects household garbage from the gray cart every week, while brush, bagged yard waste, furniture, appliances and other eligible “trash” normally use a separate every-two-weeks route.
Enter your ZIP code below — we'll take you straight to your city's official schedule. No searching, no confusion.
This guide helps you find both address-based dates, check whether pickup is due today, position the cart correctly, prepare yard waste and bulky items, understand holiday changes and report missed service without confusing City sanitation with a private hauler.
Kingsport Trash Pickup Schedule 2026: Quick Answer
Household garbage is collected weekly. Put bagged household refuse inside the City’s gray cart and have it next to the curb no later than 7:00 AM on the address’s assigned day.
Trash, brush and yard waste are normally collected every two weeks. This separate route handles eligible furniture, appliances, mattresses, resident-generated brush, bagged leaves and grass, limited building material and up to four tires off the rim.
There is no one weekday for the entire city. Use the Find My Services address search on KingsportTN.gov for the exact weekly garbage date and separate trash or yard-waste date.
Kingsport City Trash Pickup Schedule Today
A correct “pickup today” answer must identify the address and service type. The weekly garbage truck, biweekly trash or yard-waste truck and seasonal loose-leaf crew follow different routes.

Confirm the full address
A ZIP code, street name without a number or nearby house is not a reliable substitute for the official address result.
Confirm the route type
A furniture pile does not leave with the weekly cart merely because garbage is collected that day.
Check current alerts
Snow, unsafe roads, equipment problems or a special City notice can change a normal route.
How to Find Your Kingsport Garbage and Yard-Waste Dates
Kingsport’s address tool is the correct starting point because sanitation dates can differ across streets and route boundaries.
- Open KingsportTN.gov. Locate the Find My Services address box on the City homepage.
- Enter the complete service address. Use the street number, street name and unit information when applicable.
- Record the weekly garbage date. This is the gray-cart collection route.
- Record the trash and yard-waste date separately. This route normally operates every two weeks.
- Use the leaf-route map only during leaf season. The leaf route is seasonal and does not replace the normal bagged yard-waste date.
- Use ConnectKingsport when information is missing. Include the full address and describe which service date is unclear.
Once the complete address is ready, use the official City lookup for the live route result.
Biweekly Yard-Waste Date Planner
Enter one date already confirmed through Find My Services. The planner adds 14 days to show the next four planning dates. Holiday or emergency changes are not applied automatically.
Weekly Garbage vs. Every-Two-Weeks Trash and Yard Waste
| Service | Normal frequency | What belongs there | Resident action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Household garbage | Weekly | Bagged food waste, food containers, organic household refuse, clothing and ordinary household garbage. | Place it inside the gray cart and have the cart ready by 7:00 AM. |
| Trash and bulky items | Every two weeks | Eligible furniture, appliances, mattresses, small resident-generated building-material amounts and up to four tires off the rim. | Place eligible material at the street by 7:00 AM on the address-specific date. |
| Brush and bagged yard waste | Every two weeks | Resident-generated brush, bagged grass, bagged leaves and limbs no longer than six feet. | Separate the material from household garbage and contractor debris. |
| Loose leaves | Seasonal route | Clean loose-leaf piles during the City leaf season. | Place at the street edge but not in the travel lane. |
| Recycling | Drop-off service | Materials accepted at City and Sullivan County convenience locations. | Sort according to the specific drop-off location’s rules. |
Kingsport Garbage Cart Placement Rules
Kingsport uses automated collection equipment. The truck’s mechanical arm needs enough clearance to grab and empty the cart safely.
Prepare the cart
- Bag household garbage before placing it inside.
- Keep all weekly garbage inside the gray cart.
- Close the lid when possible.
- Cardboard may be placed inside the garbage cart.
- Do not place overflow bags beside the cart.
Position the cart
- Have it curbside no later than 7:00 AM.
- Keep approximately three feet from stationary objects.
- Face the lid opening toward the street.
- Set it out no earlier than 24 hours before pickup.
- Remove it within 24 hours after collection.
Parked vehicle
A vehicle in front of or beside the cart can block the mechanical lifting arm.
Fixed obstruction
Keep the cart away from mailboxes, utility poles, fences, trees and other carts.
Overflow garbage
Weekly garbage left outside the cart is not collected. Request another cart when recurring capacity is insufficient.
Kingsport Garbage Cart and Service Fees
| Service | Current published amount | Important condition |

| Standard city-limit cart | $8 per month for one cart. | Provided to households inside city limits. |
| Wildlife-resistant cart | $20 per month. | City residents only; requests depend on availability. |
| Standard plus wildlife-resistant cart | $28 per month total. | The standard cart can be retained or returned. |
| Two wildlife-resistant carts | $40 per month total. | Subject to approval and cart availability. |
| Paid back-door service | $336 per year. | Call about disability or low-income fee reduction or waiver information. |
| Outside city and county service | $25 per cart per month; each additional cart $10 per month. | Confirm voluntary-service eligibility before relying on City collection. |
Chapter 86 of the current City fee resolution contains the detailed sanitation charges. Use it for final confirmation after Streets & Sanitation identifies the item category.
Kingsport Yard Waste Pickup Schedule and Preparation
Resident-generated brush, bagged grass and bagged leaves normally use the every-two-weeks trash and yard-waste route.
Normally eligible
- Resident-generated brush.
- Bagged grass clippings.
- Bagged leaves outside loose-leaf service.
- Tree limbs no longer than six feet.
- Normal residential yard cleanup.
Common rejection causes
- Tree-service or landscaping-contractor debris.
- Limbs longer than six feet.
- Household garbage mixed into the pile.
- Material blocking traffic, sidewalks or drainage.
- Fuel containers, batteries or hazardous products.
How to Prepare a Collectible Yard-Waste Pile
- Separate vegetation from household garbage. Do not place bagged kitchen waste inside a brush pile.
- Cut limbs to six feet or less. Keep the material manageable for collection equipment.
- Bag grass and out-of-season leaves. Kingsport does not provide the bags.
- Keep the pile accessible. Avoid vehicles, hydrants, mailboxes, utility lines and storm drains.
- Have it ready by 7:00 AM. Use the exact every-other-week date returned for the address.
After the material is separated and sized, use the official page to recheck item eligibility.
Official Trash & Yard-Waste RulesKingsport Bulk Trash Pickup: Furniture, Appliances and Tires
Kingsport does not present ordinary bulky collection as a separate appointment system. Eligible large items normally use the address’s every-two-weeks trash route.
Furniture
Couches, kitchen tables, coffee tables, end tables, bed frames and yard furniture appear in City guidance.
Mattresses
Mattresses and box springs are listed for the biweekly trash route.
Appliances
Washers, dryers and several other appliances may use the trash route or landfill.
Tires
Up to four tires off the rim appear in the City’s normal trash definition.
Grills and lawn equipment
Remove tanks, fuel and oil before seeking collection or landfill confirmation.
Building material
Only a small resident-generated amount is suitable for normal curbside service. Larger loads belong at the demolition landfill.
Call Before Setting Out These Loads
| Load | Why a call is needed | Starting action |
|---|---|---|
| Move-out or whole-house cleanout | May exceed route capacity or contain chargeable items. | Call 423-229-9451 before curb placement. |
| Large renovation pile | Normal service is for a small resident-generated amount. | Use the demolition landfill or an approved hauler. |
| Contractor debris | The City excludes contractor-generated waste. | Require the contractor to remove it. |
| Carpet or uncertain chargeable item | The fee resolution may assign a charge. | Confirm the fee before set-out. |
| More than four tires | The normal curbside definition lists up to four. | Call the landfill and confirm tire charges. |
Kingsport Waste Item Checker
Select an item to identify its likely starting route. The helper does not schedule collection or calculate a final fee.
Kingsport Loose-Leaf Pickup and Leaf Line
Loose-leaf collection normally runs from the middle of October through the middle of January. Kingsport uses seven trucks across six route areas, and a complete route cycle can take approximately six to fifteen working days.
Prepare loose leaves
- Place leaves at the street edge.
- Keep them out of the travel lane.
- Do not mix trash, bags or limbs into the pile.
- Keep drains and sidewalks clear.
- Do not expect an exact house-arrival time.
Track the route area
- Use the Leaf Removal Areas map.
- Call the recorded Leaf Line.
- The recording identifies the current route.
- It also states which route is expected next.
- Volume and weather affect progress.
After Loose-Leaf Season
Bag the leaves and place them with the every-other-week yard-waste route. The City does not supply bags.
Kingsport Trash Pickup Holiday Schedule 2026

| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | Monday, January 19 | Regular curbside routes unless a separate operational alert is issued. |

Use the official holiday page after confirming the address’s normal collection date.
Official Holiday Schedule ChangesWhat to Do When Kingsport Pickup Is Missed
- Confirm the correct route date. Make sure the material was placed for the weekly garbage route or the correct biweekly trash route.
- Check the 7:00 AM deadline. Material placed after the truck passed is not normally a missed pickup.
- Check cart orientation and clearance. Face the opening toward the street and leave room for the automated arm.
- Check item eligibility. Contractor waste, hazardous products and outside-cart garbage can be rejected.
- Check nearby properties and current alerts. A street-wide miss may indicate a delayed route.
- Submit a ConnectKingsport report. Include the service address, collection type, scheduled date, set-out time and photos.
Information to attach
- Full service address.
- Garbage or trash and yard-waste route.
- Scheduled date.
- Approximate set-out time.
- Photo showing cart or pile placement.
- Whether neighboring homes were also missed.

Kingsport Recycling Drop-Off Locations and Rules
Kingsport currently directs residents to recycling convenience locations rather than an active municipal curbside recycling route.
No active City curbside route
Do not place an old blue-lid cart out expecting a current municipal recycling truck.
Industry Drive recycling
The staffed center accepts cardboard, mixed paper, aluminum and tin. Its larger recycling area also lists plastics #1, #2 and #5 and food or drink glass.
Resident debris dumpster
Kingsport residents may bring no more than one truckload of yard waste or bulk items. Proof of residence is required; household garbage is prohibited.
Industry Drive Convenience Center
| Detail | Current information |
|---|---|
| Address | 300 Industry Drive, between Cemex and the Scott Adams Memorial Skatepark. |
| Monday–Friday | 7:30 AM–4:30 PM. |
| Saturday | 8:00 AM–12:00 PM. |
| After-hours drop-off | Not permitted. |

Common Recycling Rejections
- Plastic #3 is not accepted at the City-listed plastic locations.
- Plastic wrap and shopping bags do not belong in convenience-center containers.
- Styrofoam is not accepted.
- Automotive-product or hazardous-material containers are not accepted.
- Batteries and light bulbs require a retailer or special-waste option.
- Accepted plastics and glass vary by location, so do not assume every center takes them.

| Lunch closure | 11:30 AM–12:00 PM. |
| Saturday | 8:00 AM–11:45 AM. |

- Washers, dryers, air conditioners, dishwashers, water heaters and stoves.
Important exclusions
- Ordinary household garbage.
- Cardboard and paper products.
- Hazardous chemicals and liquids.
- Unprepared barrels or fuel tanks.
- Televisions, computer monitors and laptops at the City landfill itself.
12,000-Pound Resident Allowance
The landfill page states that Kingsport city residents may use up to 12,000 pounds per fiscal year without a tipping fee and also references a 1,000-pound minimum. The fiscal year runs July 1 through June 30.
Bring proof of city residence, such as a current driver’s license or water bill.
Tire Drop-Off Rules
- Tires must be off the rim.
- Tires may be no larger than a 19.5-inch truck tire.
- Fewer than six tires are listed at $5 each.
- Whole or larger tire loads may be charged by weight.
Paint, Motor Oil, Electronics and Hazardous Waste
| Material | Correct starting path | Important warning |
|---|---|---|
| Fully dried paint | The City FAQ allows dried paint cans inside the garbage cart. | Paint is no longer accepted at the City demolition landfill. |
| Liquid paint | The City FAQ recommends drying it with absorbent material such as cat litter before cart disposal. | Never pour paint into a sink, gutter or storm drain. |
| Used motor oil | Return it to an accepting retailer or auto-service location. | Call the retailer first; acceptance is not guaranteed at every location. |
| TV, computer monitor or laptop | Call a Sullivan County transfer station before transporting it. | Current City pages use inconsistent wording about which electronics and televisions are accepted at transfer stations. |
| Household chemicals and pesticides | Use the annual Sullivan County and State of Tennessee household hazardous-waste event. | The event date is set by the state and changes annually. |
| Batteries, tanks and hazardous liquids | Use an accepting retailer or hazardous-waste program. | Do not place them in the cart, bulky pile or landfill load. |
Electronics Information Conflict
The City landfill page says televisions, monitors and laptops should go to a Sullivan County transfer station. The current recycling page separately says its electronics guidance does not include televisions. Call the intended transfer station before loading a television rather than relying on either sentence alone.
Dead Animal Collection
Dead animals are not accepted in Kingsport garbage or trash routes. Inside city limits, direct animal complaints to Petworks Animal Services at 423-247-1671.
Kingsport City Service or a Private Hauler?
The supporting search phrase “Kilgore trash pickup Kingsport TN” refers to a private provider, not the City sanitation department. No dependable public Kilgore route calendar or official provider website was found during this review.
Use Kingsport City information when
- The cart is a City gray roll-out cart.
- The address appears in Find My Services.
- The utility account includes City sanitation.
- ConnectKingsport accepts the service request.
Use the private provider when
- The invoice or cart names Kilgore’s or another hauler.
- A landlord or HOA arranged the service.
- The address is outside municipal collection.
- The missed pickup concerns a privately owned container.

Kingsport Trash Pickup Frequently Asked Questions
What day is trash pickup in Kingsport TN?
The exact date depends on the address. Use Find My Services on KingsportTN.gov to see the weekly garbage date and separate every-other-week trash or yard-waste date.
Is Kingsport garbage pickup running today?
Confirm that today is the address’s weekly garbage day, then check current City alerts for weather or operational changes.
How often is Kingsport yard waste collected?
Brush, bagged leaves, bagged grass and eligible trash are normally collected every two weeks on an address-specific route.
Does Kingsport delay pickup for every holiday?
No. The standing rule says routes operate on major holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Exact makeup routes for those two holidays are announced separately.
What time should a Kingsport garbage cart be outside?
Have the cart at the curb no later than 7:00 AM. Do not place it out more than 24 hours before collection.
Does Kingsport collect couches and mattresses?
Yes. Eligible couches, mattresses, box springs and other furniture normally use the every-two-weeks trash route.
How do I report a missed Kingsport pickup?
Confirm the route and set-out rules, then submit a ConnectKingsport report with the full address, service type, date and photos when useful.
Does Kingsport still provide curbside recycling?
The City currently directs residents to recycling drop-off locations rather than an active municipal curbside recycling route.
How much can a city resident take to the landfill?
The City page states up to 12,000 pounds per fiscal year without a tipping fee and references a 1,000-pound minimum. Call the landfill to clarify how the minimum applies to your load.
Is Kilgore’s Garbage Service the same as Kingsport City sanitation?
No. Kilgore’s is a private provider. Follow the company named on the cart, invoice, lease or HOA paperwork rather than automatically applying the City schedule.
Final Kingsport Pickup Plan
Search the complete address in Find My Services and save two different dates: the weekly gray-cart garbage day and the every-other-week trash or yard-waste day.
Put bagged household garbage inside the cart, face the opening toward the street, provide clearance and have the cart ready by 7:00 AM.
Use the biweekly route for eligible brush, bagged yard waste, furniture, appliances and limited residential building material. Call before setting out a major or potentially chargeable load.
Use the Leaf Line during loose-leaf season, ConnectKingsport for a missed route, the demolition landfill for eligible large loads and Sullivan County for hazardous waste.
