Miami-Dade’s bulky waste system is not a “put it out whenever” system. Before you place a sofa, mattress, appliance, fence, tree limbs or construction debris at the curb, schedule a bulky waste pickup online, through the MDC Solid Waste app, or by calling 311 / 305-468-5900.

The service is provided through the residential solid waste service fee on the annual tax bill. For FY 2025-2026, the County fee page lists the “Garbage, Trash, TRC and Recycling” annual fee for single family, duplex, triplex and quad customers separately from direct-bill services. Always verify your current bill if you are checking exact charges.

1

Confirm your property is served by Miami-Dade DSWM

Service rules apply to Department of Solid Waste Management customers. Some incorporated cities and private communities use different bulk trash rules.

2

Schedule online, by app or by phone

Use Miami-Dade’s bulky waste scheduling page, the MDC Solid Waste app, or call 311 / 305-468-5900 before placing items at the curb.

3

Prepare the pile by item type

Roll carpets, bag mattresses correctly, remove refrigerator/freezer doors, separate electronics, and keep construction debris within the County’s limits.

4

Place it out only in the allowed window

Place bulky waste no earlier than 3 days before the appointment and no later than 7:00 AM on the scheduled pickup date.

Resident shortcut: schedule first, then place the pile. Miami-Dade says not to place bulky waste curbside until advance arrangements are made.

Pickup Limits

Miami-Dade Bulky Waste Limits — 25 Cubic Yards, Combined Pickups, Duplex Rules and Extra Yardage

Each single-family home property receives two bulky waste pickups per calendar year, January 1 through December 31. Each pickup can be up to 25 cubic yards. If the pile is larger, a single-family resident may combine both available pickups into one larger pickup of up to 50 cubic yards.

Property / SituationCounty RuleWhat It Means for You
Single-family home2 pickups per calendar year, up to 25 cubic yards eachUse one now and save one for later, or combine if the pile is over 25 cubic yards.
Single-family combined pickupCan combine into one pickup up to 50 cubic yardsYou will exhaust your next available pickup for the year.
Duplex with two units4 pickups per calendar yearCounty says duplex pickups can also be combined up to 100 cubic yards.
Wooden fenceOnly up to 3 cubic yards of wooden fenceKeep fence material separate and do not exceed the County’s listed limit.
C&D materialLimited to 3 cubic yards and not mixed with other itemsKeep kitchen cabinets, tile, drywall, lumber and similar debris separate.

Common mistake: residents think “25 cubic yards” means unlimited renovation debris. It does not. Construction and demolition material has a much smaller 3 cubic yard limit and should not be mixed with the rest of the bulky pile.

Accepted Items

What Miami-Dade Bulk Trash Pickup Accepts — Furniture, Appliances, Yard Trash, Carpets and Tree Cuttings

Bulky waste is for large household items that do not belong in the regular green waste cart. Miami-Dade lists furniture, appliances, yard trash, crates, corrugated cardboard and similar items as bulky waste examples.

Furniture and Household Items
  • Sofas and chairs.
  • Tables and cabinets.
  • Carpets, if rolled.
  • Crates and corrugated cardboard.
  • Other similar oversized household trash.
White Goods / Appliances
  • Stoves.
  • Refrigerators and freezers.
  • Water heaters.
  • Washing machines.
  • Dryers.
  • Refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed.
Outdoor and Yard Items
  • Yard trash.
  • Tree cuttings no more than 5 feet long.
  • Chain link fences, rolled.
  • Wooden fences, limited to 3 cubic yards.
  • Disabled power tools completely free of fluids.

Before you set it out: separate piles by material type. A clean furniture/appliance pile is easier to collect than a mixed pile of electronics, chemicals, drywall, tree limbs and loose debris.

Mattress Rule

Miami-Dade Mattress Bulk Pickup Rule — Plastic Bag or Sleeve Required

Mattresses have a special rule in Miami-Dade. The County says mattresses must be fully encased in a plastic mattress bag or sleeve and sealed with weather-resistant tape such as packing tape or duct tape. The box spring does not have to be encased.

Do This for a Mattress
  • Use a full plastic mattress bag or sleeve.
  • Seal the bag with weather-resistant tape.
  • Keep the mattress with the scheduled bulky pile.
  • Set it out only during the allowed appointment window.
Avoid This
  • Do not leave an uncovered mattress at the curb.
  • Do not wrap only one side.
  • Do not use loose plastic that blows off.
  • Do not place it out before scheduling a pickup.

Fine warning: Miami-Dade states mattress violations may result in a $100 fine. Bagging the mattress correctly is cheaper than fixing a violation later.

Set-Out Placement

Miami-Dade Large Item Set-Out Rules — 10 Feet From Street, 5 Feet From Obstacles, 15 Feet Clearance

Correct placement matters because bulky waste is collected with heavy equipment. A pile too close to a mailbox, parked car, sprinkler head, tree or utility pole can be skipped or delayed.

Correct Placement
  • Place trash at the curbside after scheduling.
  • Set out no earlier than 3 days before pickup.
  • Set out no later than 7:00 AM on the appointment date.
  • Place the pile within 10 feet of the street.
  • Keep at least 5 feet from mailboxes, parked cars, trees, utility poles, sprinkler heads and similar obstacles.
  • Provide 15 feet of clearance from the ground to the lowest tree branch or power line.
Placement Problems
  • Blocked by parked vehicles.
  • Under low tree limbs or power lines.
  • Too close to a mailbox or sprinkler head.
  • Placed out before appointment is made.
  • Mixed electronics, chemicals or unacceptable material.
  • C&D debris mixed into the main pile.
Earliest 3 days before scheduled appointment.
Latest 7:00 AM on appointment date.
Pickup Target By 5:00 PM on the scheduled day.
Report After If still there after 5:00 PM.

Best for: homeowners, renters moving out, duplex residents, new Miami-Dade customers, and anyone scheduling a large furniture, appliance, mattress, fence, or yard-trash pile for the first time.

This video supports the practical guidance in this article. Drop-Off Option

Miami-Dade Trash and Recycling Centers — When Drop-Off Is Better Than Waiting for Bulk Pickup

Miami-Dade operates 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers for eligible customers. These centers can be useful when you missed an appointment, have a smaller load, need to dispose of yard cuttings, or want to avoid using one of your two bulky pickups for a small pile.

TRC Basics
  • 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers.
  • Open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
  • Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Independence Day and Christmas Day as observed by Miami-Dade County.
  • Drop off household trash, tree and yard cuttings.
  • Up to 3 cubic yards of construction and demolition debris per customer per day.
  • Most centers accept up to four standard automobile tires and white goods.
TRC Warnings
  • Food or kitchen garbage is prohibited at TRCs.
  • Oversize vehicles and large trailers cannot be used.
  • C&D disposal is limited to a pile no larger than six green 96-gallon waste carts.
  • Some items are accepted only at certain centers.
  • Use the official address lookup to find the nearest center.

Drop-off shortcut: use the TRC locator when your load is small, urgent, or not worth spending one annual bulky pickup.

Electronics & Chemicals

Electronics, Paint, Batteries, Propane and Chemicals — Do Not Put These in the Bulky Pile

Electronics should not be placed in a bulky trash pile. Miami-Dade says electronics should be taken to Trash and Recycling Centers that accept used electronics or to one of the two Home Chemical Collection Centers. Home chemicals and propane tanks also have special disposal routes.

Use Home Chemical / Special Disposal For
  • Oil-based paints and liquid latex paint.
  • Pesticides, solvents and pool chemicals.
  • Gasoline, used motor oil and batteries.
  • Fluorescent light bulbs and CFLs.
  • Propane tanks, with larger tank restrictions.
  • Computer monitors, TVs, printers and electronics.
Permanent Home Chemical Centers
  • West Dade Home Chemical Collection Center: 8801 NW 58 Street, Doral, FL 33178.
  • South Dade Home Chemical Collection Center: 23707 SW 97th Ave, Gate B, Homestead, FL 33032.
  • Hours listed by County: Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Commercial or business waste is not accepted.

2026 mobile events: Miami-Dade also announced 2026 Home Chemical Drop-off Mobile Events from February through November, with Saturday drop-off hours from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Use the official event page before driving because dates and locations matter.

City Limits

Miami-Dade County vs City of Miami Bulk Trash — Make Sure You Are Using the Right Service

This post focuses on Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management customers. The County provides waste collection and recycling services to unincorporated Miami-Dade County and several municipalities, but some cities operate their own solid waste departments or have different bulk collection rules.

Miami-Dade DSWM Service Often Applies To
  • Unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
  • Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Opa-locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach and Sweetwater for listed County waste services.
  • Some cities with recycling interlocal agreements for recycling service.
Check Separately If You Live In
  • City of Miami.
  • North Miami or North Miami Beach.
  • Miami Beach or Coral Gables.
  • Any HOA, condo, apartment or private-hauler community.
  • Any address where the water/sewer bill or tax bill does not show County solid waste service.

Local resident tip: if you are not sure, use 311 or your municipal website before placing a pile out. One street can be County-served while a nearby incorporated city uses a different schedule, limit, or enforcement rule.

Missed Pickup

Miami-Dade Missed Bulk Pickup — What to Do If the Pile Is Still There After 5 PM

Miami-Dade says a scheduled bulky pile should be collected by 5:00 PM on the appointment date. If the pile has not been removed by then, report it through 311 / 305-468-5900 or the County’s service request option.

1

Confirm the appointment date

Check your confirmation before reporting. Many missed-pickup complaints are really early set-outs or wrong appointment dates.

2

Check placement and clearance

Make sure the pile is within 10 feet of the street, 5 feet from obstacles, and has 15 feet of overhead clearance.

3

Check prohibited or special items

Electronics, chemicals, oversized C&D debris or unbagged mattresses can create service problems.

4

Report after 5:00 PM

Call 311 or 305-468-5900. Florida Relay users can use 711. Keep the appointment confirmation and address ready.

Number 1 mistake: Plastic bags in the blue cart. They jam sorting machines and send entire truckloads to landfill. Take them to Kroger, Publix, or Target drop-off bins instead.
