Longview Trash Pickup Schedule 2026: Holidays, Recycling & Bulk

Longview, Texas • garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky service

Put the Right Longview Cart Out on the Right Day

Longview residential trash is collected once each week on the address-assigned Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday route. The newer City recycling program places the blue-lid recycling cart on the following day, while yard waste remains a separate weekly service that should be confirmed in the official route map.

This resident guide explains today and tomorrow service, the 7:30 AM deadline, safest evening set-out time, four-foot clearance, 2026 holiday changes, bulky-item fees, yard-waste limits, assisted collection, compost forms, landfill restrictions and missed-pickup reporting.

🗑️ Weekly trash ♻️ Recycling next day ⏰ Before 7:30 AM 🛋️ Four bulky loads 📖 Detailed resident guide

Longview Trash Pickup Schedule 2026: Quick Resident Answer

Garbage: Longview collects residential household waste once weekly in the City-provided black cart with a black lid. Enter the complete service address in the official Collection Days map to find the assigned Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday route.

Recycling: Since November 3, 2025, the dedicated City recycling page instructs residents to place the blue-lid cart out the day after trash. Recycling must be clean, loose and unbagged.

Set-out: To comply with both published evening instructions, place carts out after 7:00 PM the night before and no later than 7:30 AM on service day. Keep four feet around each cart, close the lid and point the handle toward the home.

Important source conflict: Older City pages and the 2020 administrative regulation still describe same-day recycling. The newer dedicated recycling program is more specific and says recycling is now collected the day after trash. Do not use an old same-day calendar.

Longview Trash Pickup Today, Tomorrow and This Week

This planning tool does not search the City database. First confirm the normal trash weekday using the official address map, then use the tool to calculate the normal trash and next-day recycling pattern.

Confirm the route in the official City map before using this planning helper.

Residential Garbage Pickup Schedule Today

Trash is normally scheduled today only when today matches the address’s confirmed Monday-through-Thursday route and no City holiday, weather or emergency notice changes service. The cart must have been accessible by 7:30 AM.

Longview Sanitation Schedule Tomorrow

If tomorrow is the confirmed trash weekday, place the black-lid cart out tonight after 7:00 PM. If tomorrow is the day after the trash route, the current City recycling rule normally makes it the blue-lid recycling day.

Not a live dispatch result: A calculation cannot detect a delayed truck, blocked street, storm response or last-minute City notice. Use CitySend or call Sanitation when the route status is uncertain.

How to Find Your Longview Garbage Collection Day

Confirm City sanitation eligibility

Qualifying residents who have a City of Longview water bill receive City trash and recycling carts. A Longview mailing address alone does not prove City collection.

Open the Collection Days map

Enter the complete street number and street name. Avoid guessing from a ZIP code or nearby property because a route boundary can divide the same neighborhood.

Record the black-lid trash day

Normal residential trash routes operate Monday through Thursday. Save the exact weekday shown for the address.

Set the blue-lid cart for the following day

Under the current recycling program, Monday trash normally means Tuesday recycling, Tuesday trash means Wednesday recycling, Wednesday trash means Thursday recycling and Thursday trash means Friday recycling.

Confirm the yard-waste weekday separately

The current yard-waste page confirms weekly service but does not clearly restate the weekday. Use the map, CitySend reminder or Sanitation phone confirmation.

Subscribe to CitySend

CitySend provides email or text collection reminders and lets residents upload a photo, mark a location and track a service request.

Phone script: “Please confirm the current trash, recycling and yard-waste days for my complete service address and tell me whether this week has a holiday adjustment.”

Longview Garbage Schedule This Week

🗑️

Household trash

Collected weekly in the City black-lid cart. Bags and loose household waste must fit fully inside with the lid closed.

♻️

Recycling

Collected the day after trash under the newer program. Keep recyclable material clean, loose and unbagged.

🌿

Yard waste

Collected weekly in paper yard bags, marked personal containers or properly tied small bundles.

🛋️

Bulky material

Requires advance scheduling. Do not assume furniture, mattresses or large branches follow the weekly cart automatically.

Confirmed trash day Normal recycling day Evening preparation
Monday Tuesday Trash after 7 PM Sunday; recycling after 7 PM Monday.
Tuesday Wednesday Trash after 7 PM Monday; recycling after 7 PM Tuesday.
Wednesday Thursday Trash after 7 PM Tuesday; recycling after 7 PM Wednesday.
Thursday Friday Trash after 7 PM Wednesday; recycling after 7 PM Thursday.

Longview Cart Rules from the Administrative Regulation

The City’s administrative regulation adds details that many short schedule pages omit. Some recycling language in the 2020 PDF is outdated, but its cart-placement, weight, storage and assisted-service rules remain useful unless the City publishes a newer replacement.

Rule Practical resident action
Safest set-out window Place carts after 7:00 PM the night before and before 7:30 AM on pickup day.
All waste inside Fit every trash bag or recyclable item inside the correct City cart and close the lid.
Cart weight Keep the combined cart and contents below 75 pounds so the automated equipment can lift it safely.
Clearance Leave four feet on each side from mailboxes, vehicles, poles, fences, walls and other carts.
Orientation Point the handle toward the residence and keep the cart close enough for the truck without blocking pedestrians or traffic.
No curb available Place the cart where it is visible, no more than four feet from the road edge and on the roadway side of a ditch—not inside the ditch.
Construction near the curb Move carts, yard bags and approved bulky material to the nearest safe access point for the collection vehicle.
After collection Remove carts by 11:00 PM on collection day. A cart left out after warning can be returned to the home and a cart-return fee added to the sanitation bill.
Storage between pickups Store carts in a garage, storage building, side yard or rear area rather than leaving them permanently in front of the home.

Correct pickup preparation

  • Use the City-provided cart.
  • Close the lid completely.
  • Keep four feet on both sides.
  • Move vehicles away from the cart.
  • Point the handle toward the house.
  • Keep the cart below the stated weight limit.

Problems that can stop collection

  • Loose bags or junk beside the cart.
  • Cart placed out after the truck passed.
  • Open lid caused by overfilling.
  • Vehicle or mailbox blocking the arm.
  • Cart inside a drainage ditch.
  • Non-City container used for automated service.

Longview Assisted Collection for Residents Unable to Move Carts

The administrative regulation defines an assisted-collection customer as a resident whose occupants are certified by a licensed medical doctor or orthopedic physician as physically unable to transport garbage or recycling to the curb.

🩺

Medical certification

Expect to provide medical certification. The reviewed public pages do not expose a current application form, so call Sanitation for the latest process.

🏠

Near-home collection

Approved customers may receive collection closer to the home instead of moving carts to the normal curb position.

🛍️

Preparation still applies

Garbage must be bagged, recycling must be clean and loose, and carts must remain accessible to sanitation workers.

Before requesting service: Ask which medical professional may sign, whether the approval expires, where carts must be stored and whether another able household member affects eligibility.

Longview Recycling Schedule and Current Accepted Materials

Current timing: Place the blue-lid recycling cart out the day after trash. If the blue-lid cart is placed out on the trash day, the City says it may be treated as additional trash and disposed of rather than recycled.

Accepted curbside

  • Clean plastic containers marked #1.
  • Clean plastic containers marked #2.
  • Clean plastic containers marked #5.
  • Clean aluminum and steel household cans.
  • Paper.
  • Clean and dry cardboard.

Not accepted in the blue cart

  • Glass bottles or jars.
  • Plastic bags or bagged recycling.
  • Plastic #3, #4, #6 or #7.
  • Food or liquid.
  • Styrofoam.
  • Clothing, wood or yard waste.

Prepare Recycling So It Is Not Rejected

  • Place every accepted item loose in the cart.
  • Empty and rinse containers.
  • Keep cardboard clean and dry.
  • Do not place plastic grocery bags in the cart.
  • Keep the blue-lid cart four feet from the black-lid cart.
  • Use a separate glass drop-off location.
Old-source warning: The 2020 regulation lists same-day recycling and does not include plastic #5. The newer recycling page specifically changed both the schedule and accepted list, so use the newer page.

Longview Yard Waste Schedule, Bag and Bundle Limits

Longview collects eligible yard waste weekly. Confirm the address’s current yard-waste weekday through the collection map or Sanitation because the public page does not clearly restate it after the recycling-route change.

🍂

Loose yard material

Use paper yard-waste bags or sturdy personal containers clearly marked “YARD WASTE.”

🪢

Small brush bundles

Use biodegradable twine. Each bundle should stay under four feet long, three cubic feet and 50 pounds, with limbs under three inches in diameter.

8️⃣

Weekly quantity limit

The City lists an eight-cubic-yard weekly yard-waste maximum.

Material Preparation Best service path
Leaves, pine needles and grass Paper yard bags or marked personal containers; each bag under 50 pounds. Weekly yard-waste service.
Branches under three feet Bundle with biodegradable twine or fit inside the trash cart. Weekly yard waste or trash.
Branches three to ten feet Keep separate from furniture and request bulky service. Scheduled bulky pickup.
Tree trunk or limb up to ten feet and 24 inches diameter Bring proof of sanitation service. Compost Site.
Contractor tree debris Do not place as free residential bulky material. Contractor or commercial disposal.
No plastic yard bags: Plastic bags placed outside the trash cart are not part of free yard-waste service. They may require a fee-based bulky request.

Longview Bulky Item Pickup: Limits, Fees and Set-Out Rules

4️⃣

Included collections

Four qualifying bulky collections per rolling twelve-month period.

📦

Load limit

Eight cubic yards per pickup, approximately two small pickup-truck loads.

💵

Mattress or appliance

The current bulky-service page lists a $20 collection fee for mattresses and appliances.

📱

Advance request

Call 903-237-1250 or use CitySend before putting the load at the curb.

Bulky Items Included Without an Additional Collection Fee

  • Furniture.
  • Lawn equipment such as mowers and weed eaters.
  • Large residential branches between three and ten feet long.
  • Other approved nonhazardous residential bulky material within the eight-cubic-yard limit.

Material Collected for a Fee

  • Mattresses and box springs.
  • Washers, dryers, stoves and other approved non-refrigerant appliances.
  • Carpet.
  • Approved construction or demolition material.
  • Cross ties, pallets, ceramic tile, sheetrock, landscape timber and treated lumber when approved.
  • Additional pickup after the four included collections are used.

Material Not Accepted in Free or Fee-Based Bulky Service

  • Liquids.
  • Hazardous materials.
  • Tires.
  • Dirt, rock or sand.
  • Roofing material.
  • Refrigerators or freezers containing refrigerant.
  • Air-conditioning units containing refrigerant.
  • Loose household garbage as a free bulky load.
  • Contractor or commercial debris presented as residential waste.
  • Unapproved material mixed into brush or furniture.

How to Schedule the Pickup Correctly

List each item

Separate furniture, mattresses, brush, appliances and construction material because eligibility and fees differ.

Estimate the volume

Eight cubic yards is about two small pickup-truck loads. Tell Sanitation when the pile is near or above that amount.

Request service first

Call or submit CitySend. Ask how many included collections remain and whether the current request creates a fee.

Wait for placement instructions

Do not place bulky material curbside earlier than the day before the confirmed collection.

Separate brush from other material

Place limbs and brush apart from furniture, mattresses, appliances or construction waste.

Place the pile parallel to the road

Keep it out of traffic, drainage, sidewalks and utility access. Remaining material above eight cubic yards must be removed until another pickup is scheduled.

Billing authorization: The administrative regulation says placing bulky material at the curb authorizes collection. If no included collection remains, the applicable fee may be added to the monthly sanitation bill.

City of Longview Holiday Trash Schedule 2026

Longview uses service-specific makeup days. Do not assume every service automatically shifts one day after every City holiday.

Closed Thursday and Friday, November 26–27.
Christmas December 25, 2026 No Friday recycling.

No Friday bulky pickup.
Thursday bulky → Saturday.
No trash or yard-waste change is listed on the current page.
Closed Thursday and Friday, December 24–25.
New Year’s Day January 1, 2027 No Friday recycling.
Thursday recycling → Saturday.
No Friday bulky pickup.
Thursday bulky → Saturday.
No trash or yard-waste change is listed on the current page.
Closed Friday, January 1.
Thanksgiving is the major trash-route change: Thursday garbage moves to Friday. Christmas and New Year list recycling and bulky changes but do not list a normal trash delay.
Extra holiday garbage: The older administrative regulation allows extra material outside the cart during limited post-Thanksgiving and post-Christmas periods. Because current public cart guidance normally requires everything inside, call Sanitation before relying on that exception.

Missed Longview Trash, Recycling or Yard-Waste Pickup

Verify the service type and date

Confirm whether the missed material was trash, next-day recycling, weekly yard waste or a separately scheduled bulky load.

Check the deadline

The cart or eligible material should have been accessible before 7:30 AM.

Check the cart condition

Confirm the lid was closed, contents were inside, weight was reasonable and prohibited material was not present.

Check truck access

Verify four feet on both sides and make sure no vehicle, mailbox, pole, wall, fence or second cart blocked the automated arm.

Check holiday and weather notices

Compare the service type with the detailed 2026 schedule. The makeup day can differ for trash, recycling, yard waste and bulky service.

Submit the service request

Use CitySend or call Sanitation. Include a photograph, complete address, scheduled date and the type of material that remained.

Longview Paint, Oil, Antifreeze and Special-Waste Guidance

🎨

Leftover paint

Liquid paint cannot go in ordinary trash. Use it, give it away or harden it fully. Leave the lid off only when the contents are completely solid so collection staff can verify the condition.

🛢️

Used motor oil

Oil and oil filters cannot go in City trash or Pine Hill Landfill. Use a participating recycling business and call before driving because private locations and limits can change.

❄️

Antifreeze

The current recycling page says Fleet Services accepts used antifreeze Monday–Friday from 8:00 AM–4:00 PM. Contact Sanitation before visiting for current location and access instructions.

How to Harden Paint for Disposal

  • Keep the can away from children, pets, flames and rain.
  • Use cat litter, oil absorbent, sawdust or plaster of Paris to harden latex paint.
  • For a larger quantity, pour thin layers into absorbent material rather than attempting to dry a full deep can.
  • Only place the material in trash after no free liquid remains.
  • Never pour paint thinner, turpentine or mineral spirits into a drain or storm sewer.
Free-liquid rule: Paint, oil, antifreeze and other free liquids are prohibited from ordinary Texas solid-waste landfills.
