Find Your Toronto Garbage Day by Address

The official City lookup is designed for houses with daytime garbage, organics and recycling collection. It should not be treated as a universal lookup for every apartment, condo, nighttime route or privately serviced property.

1. Enter the complete service address. Street number and street name are more useful than postal code alone.
2. Select the exact matching property. Do not choose a nearby intersection as a substitute.
3. Record the weekday. The weekday tells you when all normal household streams are collected, but not whether that particular week is garbage or recycling.
4. Confirm the alternating week. Garbage and residential recycling normally alternate.
5. Check Green Bin separately. Green Bin organics are normally collected every week.
6. Look for yard-waste symbols. Yard waste has seasonal dates and is not automatically collected every garbage week.
7. Save the calendar. A screenshot, PDF bookmark or phone reminder prevents accidentally using an old alternating-week pattern.

The useful Scarborough answer is not simply “Tuesday” or “Friday.” District 4 contains eight different calendars. Two homes with the same weekday can have opposite garbage and recycling weeks because one may be Day 1 and the other Day 2.

Toronto’s residential recycling program changed significantly in 2026. Circular Materials’ current Toronto program accepts categories that may not match the older City recycling list residents remember.

Before Recycling Collection

• Give containers a quick rinse.
• Place recyclables clean, dry and loose in the cart unless specifically instructed otherwise.
• Flatten and bundle cardboard.
• Have daytime residential recycling at the curb by 7:00 AM.
• Keep the cart off snowbanks.
• Keep it away from obstacles.
• Close the lid completely.
• Never place batteries or medical sharps in recycling.

If You Receive a Yellow “Oops” Sticker

Circular Materials says common reasons include oversized cardboard, unaccepted items, harmful materials, the wrong container type or materials that were not clean, dry and empty.

1. Read the sticker reason. Do not automatically report a missed route.
2. Remove the problem material. Correct contamination or oversized cardboard.
3. Recheck the Toronto accepted-material list. The 2026 list differs from older City rules.
4. If collection should have occurred after correction, contact GFL. Use 1-888-921-2686.

Toronto Garbage Holiday Schedule 2026

Toronto does not automatically shift house collection one day after every holiday. In fact, most 2026 holidays have no impact to daytime or nighttime residential curbside service.

Exact Toronto Set-Out Times and Placement Rules

• Keep bins as close to the street as safely possible.
• Keep containers clearly visible and accessible.
• Leave about 0.5 m / 2 ft between bins.

Toronto Solid Waste Low-Income Relief — 2026

One of the most useful local programs is Toronto’s Solid Waste Relief for qualifying low-income seniors and persons living with a disability. The City currently lists a household-income threshold of $62,000 or less, subject to all other eligibility rules.

Important 2026 Relief Conditions

• Deadline: November 2, 2026.
• You must reapply annually.
• Supporting documentation must be submitted each year.
• Prior-year property taxes must not be owing.
• The water/utility account must be paid in full.
• Applicant/property owner must have owned and occupied the property as the principal residence for one year or more before October 31, 2026.
• Household income considers property owners residing at the property, including a spouse, under the City’s rules.

Toronto Waste Programs That Can Save Residents Money

Toronto Green Bin Organics

Toronto says roughly 40% of material in household garbage could instead go in the Green Bin. Organics are normally collected every week for eligible house routes.

Toronto Yard Waste — Exact Container and Branch Limits

Tie branches using natural-fibre rope such as burlap or twine. Do not use metal or plastic rope. Yard waste should be about 0.5 m from the Garbage Bin.

Toronto Bulk Pickup — Furniture, Mattresses and Appliances

Toronto’s oversized-item system is unusually convenient compared with many cities: eligible household items can normally be set beside the Garbage Bin on regular garbage collection day. The City specifically says this system avoids the need to book a separate pickup appointment or hire a private hauler for eligible items.

• Leave around 0.5 m between an oversized item and the Garbage Bin.
• No Garbage Tag is required on eligible furniture.
• Tie sofa-bed frames so the mechanism cannot spring open.
• Completely wrap bed-bug-infested furniture or mattresses in plastic.
• Remove doors from refrigerators, ovens and other applicable appliances.
• Remove propane tanks from barbecues.
• Carpet rolls: maximum 4 ft long and 20 kg / 44 lb.

Free Toronto Electronic-Waste Pickup

The City collects eligible electronics for free. Do not put electronics inside garbage or residential recycling.

1. Erase personal data. Clear phones, computers, drives and similar devices.
2. Remove batteries. Devices with batteries attached are not accepted in the City’s e-waste stream; batteries use hazardous-waste disposal.
3. Use garbage day. Set electronics out on the same scheduled day as garbage.
4. Keep 0.5 m from the Garbage Bin. Make the items easy for the separate collection crew to see.
5. Large items on the ground. Televisions and monitors should be visible on the ground.
6. Small electronics in clear/open container. Use a clear bag or open cardboard box.
7. Do not assume it was missed when garbage disappears first. Electronics are collected by a different truck that may arrive later.

Toronto Toxic Taxi and Household Hazardous Waste

Hazardous materials should not be put into ordinary garbage or recycling. Eligible City residential customers can request free Toxic Taxi pickup.

After Booking Toxic Taxi

• Liquids must be in sealed, non-leaking containers.
• Keep different material types separated.
• Use an open-top box/container, not a garbage bag.
• Fluorescent tubes shorter than 8 ft should be in the original box or bundled/taped in groups of eight.
• Place materials on private property at the front/street-address side of the residence by 7:00 AM on the appointment date.

Missed Toronto Garbage Pickup — Do This in the Correct Order

1. Recheck the exact route date. Confirm weekday and garbage/recycling week.
2. Confirm the stream. Residential recycling uses GFL/Circular Materials, not the City missed garbage form.
3. Check the holiday rule. Do not assume a holiday causes a one-day delay.
4. Check set-out compliance. Look for open lids, blocked bins, snowbanks, wrong materials or an overweight excess bag.
5. Wait until the route window ends. 5 PM daytime / 6 AM next morning nighttime.
6. Report within one business day. Eligible City reports have a short reporting window.
7. Leave the material outside. Keep eligible bins/items at the usual collection point while the City investigates.

How a Toronto Drop-Off Depot Visit Actually Works

1. Arrive in a safe motorized vehicle. Secure the load. Walk-ins, bicycles and manual transport devices are not permitted.
2. Go to the weigh scale. HHW/e-waste customers can follow signs directly to the appropriate area because those materials are free.
3. Declare the material. Tell staff exactly what you are disposing of.
4. Pay the deposit. Minimum deposit is currently $40 for paid loads.
5. Follow staff directions and unload your own material. Toronto describes depots as industrial locations; appropriate protective equipment is recommended.
6. Return to the weigh scale. The vehicle is weighed again to calculate net load weight.
7. Receive the final receipt. You receive a refund from the deposit or pay the remaining balance.

Community Environment Days run during the warmer part of the year and can be more convenient than a depot for certain materials.

Toronto Apartments, Condos and Co-ops

Residents of larger buildings should not copy the collection schedule from a nearby house. Building management receives the building-specific service information.

Free In-Unit Container Allowance

• First-time eligible order: one container per unit.
• Plus an additional 10% of unit count for replacements.
• Each year, buildings may request replacement containers equal to another 10% of total units.
• Request must come from the owner/property manager.
• Building must receive City garbage collection.

Accessibility and Assisted Recycling Collection

Circular Materials offers assisted curbside recycling for residents whose temporary or permanent physical disability prevents them from moving the recycling bin/cart to the curb.

1. Open the Special Accommodation application. This is separate from an ordinary recycling service request.
2. Prepare a physician’s note. Circular Materials requires it as part of the application.
3. Submit the online application. Resident Relations will follow up on next steps.
4. Keep the cart visible from the curb. The contractor may move it from a visible location at the residence to the curb and return it.
5. Know the limits. The contractor cannot retrieve the cart from inside a garage, backyard or other location not visible from curbside.

TOwaste App — What It Can and Cannot Do

TOwaste is useful, but its schedule function is not for every Toronto resident.

Toronto states that the app does not collect the address entered for a collection schedule; the address is stored on the phone. The City also says it does not collect geolocation information when “Use Location” is enabled. Usage analytics are described as anonymous.
